Will you opt out?

Ms Ley said it was important that all Australians sign up to e-health to ensure the system functions well.

“Trialling an opt-out model means we can do it carefully, methodically and ensure the appropriate protections are in place to give patients peace of mind,” she said.

“It’s vital as you move between different clinicians in the health system that everyone has that information.”

Patients will have the power to suppress parts of the record they do not wish to be seen, as the health record will be controlled by the patient.

The money is going to be spent anyway whether you opt out or not.
It could indeed be functional for different clinicians to have the data.

How will we be assured that we as individuals have peace of mind?

What does it mean, ‘that everyone has the information’ ?

If the patient has control of the information and is indeed suppressing information then will this be as useful to clinicians?

There is with this as there is with everything, that scepticism remains.

What are your thoughts?

The scheme seems like a good idea in theory but the initial roll out was a shemozzles.

The doctors didn’t like it. It wasn’t compatible with their existing software and they weren’t going to be paid much for instituting it. And there were security issues apparently.

Now they’ve bolted on some better security so that’s all well and good.

Ya?

What is the ehealth system? I know my doctors see scans and reports electronically. Is that it?

Its main purpose is to link the records you might have at different medical practices so that doctors have a complete record of your medical history.

Do you think they are going to take the time to read it though?

I write summaries for patients leaving the district. It takes time. I wouldn’t like to have to read someone else’s notes through, with the patient sitting in the chair, and try to assimilate it all. I presume there is some sort of standard notation system though.
