well done the idea of the chooks roaming and the garden being fenced is the opposite to my fenced chook runs – however we have sooooo many earwigs i’m constantly tempted to let the chooks roam free when i see nests of earwigs.

There’s a couple of others things that get called bottlebrush too. My flora ID isn’t brilliant so I’m always cautious about proclaiming name definitively.

weed the front veggie garden and the bed near the compost bin and one of the one that has spinach in it got 1 full chaff bag of weeds, then dad cleaned out the goats stable yesterday so i picked up all the poo and wood chips things ,and put them into the compost bay (one wheelbarrow load) on top of the weeds tomorrow will be weeding the flower garden (Jungle) should get 2 chaff bags so ill put one on top the a wheelbarrow, load of horse poo onto that and then the next bag and then some old compost onto that as well then it should be full and done. Also may put the straw from the chook pen on top of the last load and mix it in with the old compost. Does that sound Ok?

picked those small carrots that were in the ground since autumn. made carrot juice, and finishing making carrot soup.
also picked some young parsnips, which went into the roast with girello roast meat and kipfler spuds. the kipfler spuds were store bought but, i’m hoping the ones i planted will produce for later in the year.
stuffed like a pig…so have to go lay down. night all.

you can throw in some bentonite during turning…to add water holding capacity and generally make the compost more active if it tends to dry out easily. before i started doing this, my compost would always run through between the fork tines when i tried to turn it.

i’ve been spreading and forking mine in as soon as it is ready (i.e. turned three times).
