You’re kidding right. There were hundreds of regulars on SSSF and a bare few here. MAny are on the FB page

Many didn’t shift over to the Holiday Forum. I was locked out at work until recently when they gave us extended internet access
it was lively with all those other people
most of them were mad of course

Martin B would be another possibility, although he’s more of an irregular these days.

I first visited the old SSSF forum and SG in, I think 1999, or maybe 2000, but definitely by 2001. Maybe around the same time that Kursk submarine went down. Dunno.
My first SSSF thread was about dingoes and I was shot down by 4DSpecs. I will never forget that name …. 4DSpecs!
4DSPECS!
Seriously, what sort of name is that? :)
Never met anyone from any of the forums IRL.

I’ve met a small amount of people including morrie, who I miss seeing here.
I started before we moved to Penshurst, and that was 2001. I think I was here in 1999 or 2000 but not really avidly here quite as early as that. My first question was about why Tasmanian aboriginal people were still darkly pigmented when they were so far South for quite a long time. I wondered if it suggested the ozone hole was a really longstanding feature of the Southern Hemisphere. I can’t remember if I really got many answers or not.
I think I started in Scribbly around early/mid 2002. Then I ran away from there when the Hunter Valley vs someone else shit storm got way out of control. I thought I’d be safer in sssf. Boy was I wrong :/

Being a newbie, I wanted to create some discussion but failed to provide my own opinion first. I can’t remember whether you had an opinion or not, just that you had a big gripe with the thread.

its like the scene with spock and kirk in the ring fighting each other
an old trick is to allow your opponent to turn his back then leap onto his back sink your fangs into his neck sucking his life out
First, you gotta shriek like a woman and keep sobbing until he turns away in disgust. That’s when it’s time to kick some back.

Not always.
So, you’ve won the argument. You turn to walk away. Then, you stop and turn back, saying:
“Oh, and you must give me the name of your tailor. So that i can avoid them.”

or Madam, as appropriate.

‘bout the Ides of March plus three in 2003 for me. Not much more than a mere stripling, I was.
I am not sure, I think I was in Sydney at the time. When was that time everyone had to reregister names, I lost my original name at that time.
Early 2004 for me.
Took me nearly a year before I was comfortable to meet any forumers in real life. First one was Michael V & Mrs V on a visit to Perth. It was just a few days after the Boxing Day Tsunami, and it was the topic of conversation – we were sitting outside in the beer garden trying to estimate the height on the buildings over the street and trying to imagine if one was coming down the street at us.

I have only been modded once, and it was a ricochet modding for posting in close proximity to someone who displeased Kylie somehow. No correspondence was entered into, and the whole incident was never explained. It remains a mystery.

I got no warning, no strikes, no response to E-mails, and had no idea what I’d done to deserve the smiting. Pointing these things out didn’t seem to make any difference.
The whole episode was a joke – As was so much of the modding on that forum.

One was a coven shit-fight that I got home from work and stumbled into the middle of – everyone got banned.
One was a shit-fight about zoos.
One was a remark regarding experiments in nano-thermite to determine the explosive properties of the substance. Got Geoff D a perma-ban too. I felt sorry for him.
Never, ever banned.

Someone here goes off occasionally, new names. Telling everyone to get fucked, starting threads with abusive titles. But generally gets ignored.
I think it is the same one from the old site, same MO. It would be intersti g to find out who it is.

It’s the same character who was making SSSF unusable in its last few months. He peeps in here now & then and we ban his latest handle and lock the doors.
Roy found out who he is and gave me his name & address (lives in Hobart), but I’ve never felt inclined to look him up :)

Same for me. I did my early morning hellos, went to work and later in the day found I couldn’t get onto the forums. I have no idea what the problem was. I had referred to The Hypochondriac Whinger, so I emailed and asked for an explanation, and pointed out that if that was their problem they should note that it was a registered nick. Never got an explanation.
I believe CS was about ’98/‘99, myself and Junglenut were introduced to Scribbly Gum in 2005. I stayed with SG while Junglenut moved over to TechTalk..

She was a cruel and capricious God, as they mostly are
I know the big Melbourne pud, making sure that piggy buggered off, was held in about March 2000. So I was on SSSF some time before that.
I would have been the late 90s. Was well and truly part of the furniture when the twin towers came down, but there was already a well established coven by the time I arrived.
I moved to my current office in 2005 and I was on SSSF a year or two before that I think. I joined after I had a “discussion” with a moon hoax conspiracy theorist and I wanted to know if there were any telescopes that could see the lunar modules.
The question went into moderation and I never saw any answers,

I missed it too.
It was stupid and childish.
So was the dark orange stuff (at least until I figured it out, anyway).
I started when it was just one long thread. Long before velvet and mutant. I have enjoyed meeting all the people I have met over the years, except one. Many of the people I have met through sssf are very good friends now. I even went to a wedding or two and have accommodated traveling visitors many times. They are all part of the family history.
