From the link

Australian police deal with an estimated 657 domestic violence matters on average every day of the year. That’s one every two minutes.

Those figures are based on data provided by police services around the country about how often their officers work on domestic violence cases.

Overall, the count is 239,846 per year around the country.

There is no standard definition of domestic and family violence across all jurisdictions in Australia and no standard way for counting the number of police call-outs to situations related to domestic violence.

The details of the data being captured varies across jurisdictions and can include:

attendance at suspected domestic and family violence incidents; domestic and family violence court orders made by the police; domestic and family violence assaults (encompassing threats and physical violence); and associated agencies reporting domestic and family violence to the police.

I think emotional control counseling would reduce domestic violence incidents

the idea being that partners becoming more aware of their own emotions in order to control them

some way would have to be worked out to teach it

another way to reduce that figure would be to teach emotional control in schools

in cases where alcohol is involved more effort would be required to emphasis that alcohol reduces emotional control

Card helps curb ‘national emergency’ of domestic violence

A button is pressed, police are alerted and a life is potentially saved. RN Afternoons looks at the SafeTCard, a device designed to curb Australia’s horrifying rate of domestic violence.

there are people who want to control someone else and/or want to own someone

these people need counseling as well

Yes, also other less likely things like kitchen sinks, cutlery and ceramic plates all of which make dissonant jarring sounds which I think can act as a trigger for arguments or can be used deliberately in an argument.

Leviticus 25:44 says you can own slaves, but they have to come from neighbouring countries. Comparison of GDP per head leads me to think that people from PNG may be less expensive than slaves from NZ.

They certainly need to gain a lot better comprehension of what actually is going on.
Sure, there are aspects of such situations that are clear and that is police business. None of the other 99% is.

Which is one reason to have a major study into domestic violence and related issues so that government policies have information and research to go on

a lot of police who are regularly involved must have a lot of good ideas that need consideration

ideas from victims and professionals in the field

its not good to cut down to support services when there are such high figures, that does not make sense

The police have no ideea at all. All they see is a complaint and that needs to get somebody charged. Obnce that is done, there is no way of fixing it.

So how are they coming up with numbers for domestic violence if there isn’t a definition for domestic violence?

I recently spoke with someone charged under domestic violence for calling his partner an offensive name.

All you could want to know about the definitions and the differences across State and Federal legislation:

http://www.alrc.gov.au/publications/5.%20A%20Common%20Interpretative%20Framework%20%E2%80%94%20Definitions%20in%20Family%20Violence%20Legislation/curre

Possibly more than you could want to know, actually.

AFAIK.

Obviously there are three sides to the story: his side, her side and the truth. Apparently he was charged with intimidation, which comes under the DV law (or something).

People usually know each other for a fair while before they get married. I wonder why women don’t get to see the bad side of their partners before committing to a relationship. Maybe they should try some “stress testing” beforehand and if signs of violence appear, walk away.
