I would assume that the plane is ascending rapidly in the suns direction

or just look up and see the camera.

or it could be a model aircraft with the sponsers name on it and a camera slung underneath. as the article points out.

Since the sun’s rays are effectively parallel at the earth’s surface ( and at any height an aircraft flies) the shadow of the aircraft is as near as dammit the same size as the aircraft. That can’t be a ral plane’s shadow
