Caecilians are an order of amphibians that live mainly underground. They are limbless, somewhat wormlike, and live in wet tropical or equatorial regions of Africa, Asia and the Americas. There are about 200 species.
I never heard of them until just now.
I have heard of them, but didn’t know there were that many species. You probably know them as “legless lizards”, because that was the popular name for them until about 20 years ago. I even saw one on Cradle Mountain, Tasmania, mistook it for a snake at first. I’ve never seen one in a zoo.
