There are probably many exSSSF lurkers who we could perhaps encourage to post more if we asked nicely. It might help if we make an effort to start science based threads.

Are registrations open? Would not make sense to advertise but keep the gates locked. Plus the current owner of this site may not want t support it indefinitely…

i would email cb88 before i put it up on fb. just wanted to get an idea if people were interested or no.

We’re all old acquaintances here so there isn’t too much friction but new entrants might increase the need for some form of moderation…

There are a few people that would like to rejoin (from the old sssf) who’ve lost their logins or something. I am also aware of a few women who won’t post here anymore because of the attitudes of certain males.

Attracting new people may require a clean-up of some peoples’ behaviours.

New people may feel overwhelmed by the cliquey nature of the place.

But, there are reasons we all decide to pop in here and my guess is because we as individuals know the people here and the people here know us as individuals which for the most part makes people feel comfortable and safe (or at the very least, not lonely).

This forum, like sssf is a great soap opera, better than anything you would see on tv.

I also think individual contributors here should be able to recommend new contributors, and be responsible for their contributions for a probationary period.

Without new people, this place must die; as long as the gates are locked, we can’t get new people, so we need to check first with cb88 that he wants to keep the site running for some period, and then ask him to unlcok the front gates. Some people have left recently, but over the past 18 months the total site traffic hasn’t changed much. Here are some brief statistics for the last 18 months:

I like to keep my facebook just for me and my people. If I want to hear the random thoughts of strangers.. I come here ;) (or to any other forum on the internets)
