There are probably many exSSSF lurkers who we could perhaps encourage to post more if we asked nicely. It might help if we make an effort to start science based threads.

There are a few people that would like to rejoin (from the old sssf) who’ve lost their logins or something. I am also aware of a few women who won’t post here anymore because of the attitudes of certain males.

Attracting new people may require a clean-up of some peoples’ behaviours.

New people may feel overwhelmed by the cliquey nature of the place.

*shrugs* just my thoughts on the idea……

Well I’m comfortable and safe here.

But, it does get slow and boring if there’s nothing to talk about. Even worse when it’s the same old topic and the same posters wade in and start posting stuff we’ve all heard before. Some new voices would be good IMHO.

Well you, like everyone else, are able to vote with your feet if you so wish. But, there are reasons we all decide to pop in here and my guess is because we as individuals know the people here and the people here know us as individuals which for the most part makes people feel comfortable and safe (or at the very least, not lonely).

Why not more of the same? They can contribute the same as everyone else does, input from individual life experiences, jobs and personal circumstances.

Without new people, this place must die; as long as the gates are locked, we can’t get new people, so we need to check first with cb88 that he wants to keep the site running for some period, and then ask him to unlcok the front gates. Some people have left recently, but over the past 18 months the total site traffic hasn’t changed much. Here are some brief statistics for the last 18 months:

Jan. 2014: 17209 posts by 83 users
Feb. 2014: 15739 posts by 76 users
Mar. 2014: 15453 posts by 88 users
Apr. 2014: 13012 posts by 81 users
May. 2014: 15108 posts by 79 users
Jun. 2014: 12270 posts by 74 users
Jul. 2014: 16036 posts by 70 users
Aug. 2014: 16579 posts by 71 users
Sep. 2014: 15713 posts by 74 users
Oct. 2014: 17366 posts by 75 users
Nov. 2014: 16247 posts by 77 users
Dec. 2014: 16832 posts by 73 users
Jan. 2015: 15439 posts by 77 users
Feb. 2015: 15582 posts by 75 users
Mar. 2015: 15308 posts by 76 users
Apr. 2015: 14343 posts by 70 users
May. 2015: 15087 posts by 74 users
Jun. 2015: 11821 posts by 70 users

These are all the months I’ve collected statistics for; the number of users includes people like Boris who have more than one login, but has dropped by 15% over that time.

it will over at some point in the next few years as less and less people post as they drift away and no new members come on board

it would be nice to have new people to drown out some of the boring. When there are a few different conversations going, it’s easy to pick the one you are interested in and participate. And easier to ignore conversations, for the choice . Some new blood, but with moderation would be good.

OK, I’ll change that to targetted ignoring then.

:)

Yep, that really works.

Except that targeted only needs one t.

I disagree with the moderation.

There’s a long been a lack of new questions, quality dissenting opinions and dare I say it, the calibre of the trolls is nowhere near up to par. Now it’s just the same conversation.

Long gone are days of one of our own coining a word that will eventually be added to the dictionary. The Velvets have been crushed under the Mutant’s iron heel. The orange has desiccated, crumbled into dust and blown away leaving a dark room with an funny smell in one corner.

New blood joins this earth,
And quickly he’s subdued.
Through constant pained disgrace
The young boy learns their rules.
With time the child draws in.
This whipping boy done wrong.
Deprived of all his thoughts
The young man struggles on and on he’s known
A vow unto his own,
That never from this day
His will they’ll take away.

does this forum need it?

There are a few people that would like to rejoin (from the old sssf) who’ve lost their logins or something. I am also aware of a few women who won’t post here anymore because of the attitudes of certain males.

Attracting new people may require a clean-up of some peoples’ behaviours.

New people may feel overwhelmed by the cliquey nature of the place.

*shrugs* just my thoughts on the idea……

I agree with kii.

If some people from the SSSF FB page join here, I’m outta here. There’s too many sexist comments over there; there’s a few other good reasons I removed myself from the group.

I was talking to a woman who works for Nutrition Australia yesterday. Nutritionist and educator. Found myself thinking it’s a bloody shame we didn’t have someone like her at the old forum.

Gee, you’d think people could try growing up a bit after all these years :/ It’s not rocket surgery or anything, is it? Maybe because so many females from the sssf don’t say anything, the few who do are treated as feminazis and any concerns are dismissed as rantings. It pisses me off that so many people, especially women, just giggle and accept the sexist crap.
“Oh, it’s just boys being boys!”

Grrrrr……
