Independent expert confirms that the “impossible” EM Drive actually works

Over the past year, there’s been a whole lot of excitement about the electromagnetic propulsion drive, or EM Drive – a scientifically impossible engine that’s defied pretty much everyone’s expectations by continuing to stand up to experimental scrutiny.

The drive is so exciting because it produces huge amounts of propulsion that could theoretically blast us to Mars in just 70 days, without the need for heavy and expensive rocket fuel. Instead, it’s apparently propelled forward by microwaves bouncing back and forth inside an enclosed chamber, and this is what makes the drive so powerful, and at the same time so controversial.

Mars in 70 days? First I’d heard of that.

That’s pretty impressive, shortens all the various life support, cosmic ray protection problems quite considerably

They are saying they don’t understand how it works. I thought it works by deflecting random microwaves through a focusing system.

It would be exciting if a new form of propulsion that contradicts our understanding of physics was discovered, implemented and practical

That would be interesting but I don’t think there is a contradiction here. Seems like a microwave surfboard to me. Just the impression I get……….

if it works then nuclear power would be an ideal candidate for the powersource

we could then have a regular service to the moon

polyethylene spaceships would be the order of the day being built in earths orbit by giant 3d printers, thick plastic walled spaceships would provide excellent shielding for spaceships.

the orbital factory would most likely be a huge cube ship with open ends the basic printing mech being put together and then it printing its own panelling. various designs would be printed in orbit

To Mars in a plastic spaceship? As daft as it may sound, it could be the safest way to go.

Did you miss the part where the cosmic microwave background is the only powersource involved?

it doesn’t work off the CMBR. it is a special cavity into which they pump microwaves. they need an external power source.

Oh ok. I thought it didn’t require anything pumped into it.

Meanwhile, beyond nonsense headlines and from the very first paragraph of the paper itself:

“Our test campaign can not confirm or refute the claims of the EMDrive but intends to independently assess possible side-effects in the measurement methods used so far.”

you mean its like a free energy machine?

well its time I invested all my money into this machine

I’m saying that the title of the article is wrong. The independent expert in question has not confirmed that the EM Drive actually works.

Here’s a better title and article:

“Despite Headlines, the EM Drive is Still Bullshit”.
