Subject: scam emails

I’ve been getting a lot of scam emails lately. Usually they are along the lines that my Paypal account needs verification or it will be cancelled – or more lately, supposedly from iTunes, asking me to verify whether recently purchased Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus. If I didn’t, I should click on the link to change my password. These emails don’t actually have an attachment – just a link.

My question is, what potential harm can I do by clicking the link? Provided I don’t disclose any information, can I sustain any damage just by clicking the link?

Probably not but it’s probably wisest to just delete them without clicking on anything.

I regularly get the scam PayPal ones and I know from once clicking on the link, it takes you to a spurious PayPal log-in page, obviously wanting your password so they can steal all your money like the nasty critters they are.

yes. It may be a link to download something.

Or the website it links to is one big virus/malware repository that will try and infect your computer

If in doubt, don’t click.
