Interesting statistical breakdown of deaths by natural causes in the USA by Mona Chalabi.

It sometimes strikes me as odd that dying of death due to accidental contact with a chemical agent is considered non-natural, and death due to accidental contact with a biological agent such as a bacterium is considered natural.
That’s strange. I thought “killed by hospitals” would be higher on the list.
I note that that’s only US figures. World figures that I looked up a couple of years ago were quite different. Let’s see if I can still find them.
First let’s look at Australia. In order (not normalised to 100%).
Heart disease 225
Stroke 110
Alzheimer 85
Lung cancer 80
Pneumonia 60
Diabetes 45
Colon cancer 40
Kidney 30
Not the same as the USA. eg in USA heart disease is 5 times as common as stoke, as against 2 times in Australia. In the USA pneumonia kills more than stroke and Alzheimer. Hmm. Statistics unreliable?
World causes of death (again not scaled to 100%) http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs310/en/
Heart disease 74
Stroke 67
COPD 31
Pneumonia 31
Lung cancer 16
HIV 15
Diarrhea 15
Diabetes 15
Roadkill 13
where COPD = emphysema + bronchitis + asthma
