After boiling, for about 5 minutes, put eggs into cold water for a couple of minutes, remove egg from water and press egg under the palm of your hand on the kitchen bench, not too hard, just enough so that when you roll the egg you can hear a crackling sound, you will find that the shell will come off very easily and in fairly large pieces. For a taste treat spread about one teaspoon of Anchovy paste on each the cut surfaces of the egg, “Yummy ! “

Putting them in the fridge after cooling under running water, works as well as any.

Soaking hard boiled eggs in vinegar for a while will soften the shell to flexibility, and you can peel it off in large flexible strips. Concentrated hydrochloric acid will dissolve the shell completely, and you won’t have to peel it.
*Note that both these methods will change the taste of the egg flesh.

Add some bicarb to the boiling water. Won’t change the taste but the shell will peel easily.

Especially if you don’t wash off all of the HCl before eating?

By cooling I do mean, have water running, leave them in it for a bit, then pick them uop and hold them in hand for a sec. If they warm up, put them back under the water until they stop heating you hand.
Then put them in the fridge until you are ready to peel them.

Does anyone else put alfoil on top of the gas top? When it gets dirty just screw it up and throw it away and replace. Metal underneath stays white and pristine.

Oh no!
Heard about that practice for the first time earlier today from my sister. People she knows who did it destroyed three cooktops in one year – heat + dissimilar metals is a very bad combination.

Apart from that, alfoil goes very porous when heated, won’t stop anything.

How so? I have always done it without any problems at all. Has to be 15 years all up of various gas cooktops. I am talking about the White enamel ones. Remove the burner rings, lay over alfoil silver side up, rip out a little hole, replace the burner ring, replace the metal grate.

withit under the rings, the majority of the heat would go up away from the foil

It doesn’t wear out, but you replace it when it gets a bit spattered and untidy. Or at least I do. Monthly job.

The enamel cook top. Rings are the things that the gas jet comes out of and burns. On top of that is the grate on which you sit pots. Enamel top, foil, rings, grate.

Depends on when you try to clean it up and what it is sticking to despite the fact that it is too oily to pick up.

Gas jet flames are way above the foil.. It is only a drip tray really.
