I think the word you’re looking for is perpendicular.

A dilled hole will almost always be “straight”, but it will not always be perpendicular.

(For a man whose father was a builder, he’s about as cack handed as you can get. I’m better at hammering nails than he is, by a long shot. But then again, I’m afeared of the power tools and he is not)

You can create a non straight hole by grinding the cutting edges of the drill off centre.
