Do micro wave ovens loose “grunt” with age? I find that I have to heat my muslie longer now to get the required temperature compared to a few months ago?

answered this n the other thread, bob

the megnetron that generated the radio energy is a valve, like in the old days (CRT TV picture tubes too), the cathode output declines.

the answer was yes

the parts that wear are the bits that produce the electrons

apart from low cathode output there are some other possibilities
- moding which is when mag valves output is not clean, well it’s dirtier and may have output other than the main fequency
- related perhaps it may go off frequency
- cracked mag valve magnets

- i’d guess too if the HV capacitor on the rectifier/V-doubler loses capacitance that the HV anode voltage can be reduced

- then there are intermittent faults (assuming duty cycle from control side is all operating properly) like one of the mag heater spade lugs is not making proper contact.
