Humid here in Luckyland……might be sleeping in the rumpus room for the elf…. if it stays humid into the late evening.

Just fed the animals and about to start our meal.

It’s hot and a little humid here too. Everyone’s fed and I’m just popping out soon to do some serious pruning to take to the green’s tip tomorrow morning. Just had an offer on my ute so it looks like my last weekend to get it done. I’m sad at the thought of her going, she’s been with me for over 7.5 years… sigh…

Morning All,
It’s a good day for the garden so far, and we’re promised rain later :)
I’m just spending a few minutes here before we head out. We want to go to Magic Garden Roses in Healesville today, but they advise us to ring before leaving if we have a long distance to travel. It will take us at least 2 hours from here and so far no-ones answering their phones. I have a few roses I’d like the ID of so I hope they do open today as I’ve already cut the roses!

Not a bad day so far weather wise today.
Cool and over cast.

Someone attacked me again on the lip with botox:( NOT HAPPY Jan…….. can’t believe this…. maybe cos I keep saying I am 13 is causing the problem????? Never had such a bout of cold sores as what I am having this year.

Maybe the Chinese should call it the Year of botox instead of the rat….lol

Anyway…. not sure what I am doing today…….. just take each minute as it comes and slides past into history.

Lucky, you can get a short course of tablets to stop a bout of recurring coldsores. My eldest get’s them in those bouts and the tab’s stopped it.
Take care

Not really, she doesn’t feel off colour at the time. Although they happen when she is sick mostly , a slight cold or fever and her lips are covered with the horrible thing’s.

But always before a big night out or event, boom, one pop’s up. She would then go on to get them recurring for week’s. I know she has the course of tab’s on her should she get an outbreak.

New lens script now and new glasses frame’s on order, some trendy purple Fendi ones :) I wouldn’t say I,m dull, so my glasses don’t have to be dull ! lol.

Other….I got some advise from several people who have the same shoulder rotor cuff syndrome as me…seeing as I had refused to have the ‘ shoulder hydrodilation’ procedure ( too exp ,very painfull and no gurantee of success ) …and was told sweep the paths, driveway, patio ect daily. The forarm action lead’s to arm and neck strength and it has helped enourmously !! I have a lot more shoulder movement :D
The house looks like a bomb site but by joves the paths and patio’s are pristine !

Excellent HP!

My health news is my weight is still (very) slowly dropping.. That’s 2kg since the last topup, but at least it is not going up.. I’ve been pretty chuffed that it has plateaued, so seeing a drop is even better..

Seeing 158.0kg now, started 13 months ago at 184, peaked at 186.

My normal slobaround clothes are shorts and grandfather shirts, and they are very flexible. Had to retie the shorts a couple of times, or remember to NOT put the coin filled wallet in my pocket at the stupidmarket.. 8^)

Have had to wear real clothes for work, and the sizes are reducing. The shirt I bought to wear to my brother’s wedding (and I wore when I first started working) is now like a joke, and the trousers with the same history need a belt or they are around my knees…

I hadn’t really thought about the clothes, the change has been gradual but pleasing!

Sometimes there can be a bubble of air in the band, and sometime’s the fliud is absorbed, a couple of thing’s that can cause slow weight loss, so I will be getting checked for those prob’s.

It depends what it is… Bread is just too hard. A little garlic bread takes over an hour in little bites, and that’s only possible because of the butter easing it down…

But really moist food (like an orange) is pretty easy if I don’t eat at normal speed.

It lets you know if you went too hard on the tooth….

thanks Lucky. I just feel that community gardening is where my heart is at the moment, but working full time hasn’t given me the opportunity to do anything about it. So if I can help out in a small way here then I will feel I am contributing. I would like to see it as not just growing food to give away, but teaching and encouraging these people to try it at home too.

Not that I am an expert in any sense, there are lots of plants that I fail at growing.

if they can provide just a bit of their own food themselves, I would imagine it would do a lot for their budget and their self esteem.

the lady told of one family who through no fault of their own lost their Centrelink payments for 6 wks over Christmas – Centrelink had lost the paperwork!

For 6 weeks they had no fresh fruit and veg and she didn’t say what they had to go through to find food for the family, but apparently it caused them a lot of shame. But if they had some pick and come again veg in the back yard like silverbeet etc. then it could have provided them with essential veg.

Not that I am an expert in any sense, there are lots of plants that I fail at growing.
———
you could have fooled me – i thought you answered questions very well. pity about your job – you would do well in the role of community garden adviser.
it is such a worthy project it would be worth seeing if the church is willing to back it IMHO.

knowing something in theory doesn’t always mean I get it to work in practice! lol! onions and carrots yet elude me, although I suspect it is because I don’t give them the best bed because they need more time than other plants and I get impatient to plant other things.

I suspect the garden thing would be voluntary though.

Collie, sounds like you are doing very well, both at your job and with the weight loss.

BG, go for it!! Even with a diploma, it doesn’t mean I can grow a vegetable to save my life! All mine are miracle gifts from the compost! LOL! One day I’ll set up a proper vegie patch, and it will definitely be a learn as I go experience, knowing things in theory and applying them successfully are two different things.

Don’t forget, just because we don’t know the answer to every question doesn’t mean we know nothing. Someone once asked my ex to identify a eucalypt (that wasn’t in flower). When he said he didn’t know they said “I thought you specialised in Aus natives” His reply “There are over two thousand species of Eucalypts, let alone grevilleas etc. It’s going to take me a lifetime to learn them all.”

I sometimes feel nervous before doing a consultation, thinking “What if they ask me a question I can’t answer?”, and they may well ask me one question I can’t answer, but I don’t think they care after the other 20-30 I could. Sometimes I walk out of the consult thinking “Where was all that info hiding? I didn’t know I knew that!” LOL!

Then there are the rather more frustrating times you are trying to think of the botanical name for Chiese star jasmine, and instead of Trachelospermum, your brain keeps chanting “Xylomelum, Xylomelum, Xylomelum!” and drowning out rational thought, lol! That happened to me on Saturday, eventually I remembered though.

The funniest thing was when they asked me if Pandorea had a scent, and I sniffed as if the flower was right in front of my nose and then replied “No, it doesn’t” to find them looking at me rather strangely. Then had to explain that I was ‘right there’ at the time, with the imaginary flower in hand, LOL!

Oops, let me try that again, and actually say something this time!! LOL!! Trigger happy!

What I was going to ask is does this happen to any of you? Being so ‘in the moment’ you could smell the flower even without it there in front of you? (if it DID have a scent, LOL!)

Or am I slowly drifting away to the land of fairies and other imaginary creatures?

Bugga, I have a consult that day at 1pm. Let me know if you can work around that time-wise. It’s only the next suburb away so I’ll leave here @ 12.45 and be back approx 2.45/3.00pm. Will need 45 mins to get ready so 11ish would be cool if you just want to stay for an hour. After is probably getting too late for you to get home again unless you’re happy to drive in the evening, just let me know which you’d prefer or if you’d rather leave it for next time.

So light vego for dinner then?? My place?
Make it 3.00 – 3.30 just to make absolutely certain I’m back from my consult then.

well not exactly – but I’m self employed in the building industry – and people will phone up and ask “whats the height of the power point third from the pantry and closest to the stove?’
usually I’m in the middle of an utterly different project when they phone, but I can often visualise what they are asking and answer correctly. Its not the same as smelling but the smell is just memory recall I think.

Ermmm, yes, but I think my hand may have been in action as if grasping the flower as well, I was so in the moment I can’t actually remember! I literally saw myself in a garden grasping the flower and bringing it to my nose. Anyway, they were happy. They may think I’m a complete nutter but they were happy.

Yep that happens to me but not with flowers or plants, but cooking smells. I can think of what to cook for tea eg: something I can ‘smell’ then I go and cook that.

…. there’s something strange happening in my garden pond, a sound….we have been trying to work it out for day’s now. It’s amost like someone hitting a hollow log some distance off…there’s a pattern to the sound and when we go near it, it stops. It’s resonating loud enough to keep us awake.. the sound stops during the daytime, start’s at dusk.
I reckon it’s a frog, hubby reckon’s it’s the yabby calling for a mate and ‘doing something’ like drumming with it’s big claw’s…giant son reckons we got aliens visiting lol.

I was going to make a sound recording but I’ve reformatted my PC after a big pc crash and cannot get the sound back . Bugga.

I,m glad to hear these frog’s might be able to survive the fish in the pond as MR. Pobblebonk is very vocal this morning :)

I have had an interesting morning…first the alarm didn’t go off and I had minutes to get myself and giant son up for the 90 min 5 klm per hour freeway drive to school….just got back and I feel sick for not eating so getting food in a min.

Opposite son’s special school is a car wash/ cafe and I went to count out any coins to grab a coffee and got talking to the cafe owner about her coffee machine problem ( it was blocked and simply fixed ) and she’s offered me a job running the cafe !!!!!
5 days a week 12 pm to 5 pm…I,m seriously thinking of taking it…..it might keep my ageing car on the road a bit longer at least.

Gotta eat. BBL

It was straight out of the blue!
but we need to talk over if it’s a good or bad thing that I will be across the road from giant son and will he be heading over to see me often.
I,m way over qualified , but this is just a ‘little job’ for a few month’s ( I have higher qualification’s than the owner lol )
As far as job’s go this one couldn’t be easier, its a sandwich bar , very small and no cooking at all, there’s no cooking facilitie’s ,just a sandwich press and a coffee machine , drinks fridge and seating area , a few cake’s ect mainly for people waiting for their car’s to be detailed.
Easy peasy. I do have to buy a plain black t shirt as all mine are too big and have word’s on them. Men’s t shirt’s are plain ..and cheaper too.

I,m up early , too hot to sleep and I want to water the front garden. Checking the forcast, rain for the east of the state but still dry in the west, so off I go watering in the dark.

hi HP – although now its evening two days later.
our frogs are most vocal in the mating season – spring. apart from the bonk there is the sound of a stick being run over a washboard – in fact i have heard four different sounds in mating season.
the neighbours citrus trees are flowering – so more than just the frogs are out of season.

Lucky you’ve done a great job with your tidy-up :)
I’ve been waiting for the skies to open for 3 days because my roses need a spray for blackspot and you can’t do that if it’s gonna rain – it all gets washed off! I gave up waiting today and did the deed. Also fed them, so I smell like Charlie Carp and Dynamic Lifter. Delicious!

if he’s not back in a week we’ll have to start a topic with his name on it.

I was only just thinking about the little vegie fella yesterday and wondered when he hits the books agin.

the law of averages does favour a wet winter. unfortunately the same law indicates flooding.

Morning All,
Oops – Afternoon all. Where did this morning go ?
It’s pouring with rain here at the moment :)
I am in the middle of potting up my new roses and it’s got too heavy for even a twerp like me to work in it. Never mind, it’s all good.
Hope all those in need are also getting some rain.
BBL – I think it’s slowing down.

Good afternoon all :) I’m not sure that I’ll catch up on all posts for last few days!

It has been wet here – 128mm in 2 days to yesterday :) Hope all who need rain get it soon!

New neighbours moved in next door. Actually the owners after a series of maximum 12mo-at-a-time renters. Off to a good start I think. I accepted their offer of fruit and vegie scraps for the poultry. Got my first lot in a little blue plastic bucket with lid on and that has been returned with a half doz eggs and some lady finger bananas :D. Put a pergola hook on the boundary fence and hopefully there will be more exchanges. Gave the rest of the carton of eggs to a friend this morning – enjoy doing that. She is going to drop in some aloe vera plants for me later in the week – was concerned about the itchy welts I have from biting insects, following the wet weather.

New neighbours this week also, more renters, over one end of my back fence. Have yet to formally meet them but had to tell their dogs to “get used to it” – barking at my poultry :( and certainly not helping as I herd the Dark Campbell ducklings into the shed in the evenings.

Keeping up to date with Lucky’s doings via her blog updates emailed to me :) Hope everyone is well.

Oh we did…. she bought me a woolen long jacket to replace I one I live in each winter. Bought it when #1 son was 6 months old…… he’s 21 this year.

I lashed out at the “Body Shop” and bought some peppermint cream for my poor aching feet…. already popped some on and my feet feel so much better and the cream has a cooling affect as well:)

We had Chinese for lunch:)

Morning all Had my first day back at work yesterday , 5 hours part time and boy did my feet feel it , not because I,m not on my feet that long usually , but because I had to wear shoes lol.
Fun workplace though! They happily gave me a big bag of left over bread roll’s for the chook’s :)

My dog Max was sitting at the front window sill waiting for me the whole time I was at work despite other’s trying to keep him distracted with game’s :(
He is too attached to me.

Garden stuff :
got another Rhododendron, lilac flower , ‘Admiral Piet Hein’ ,this one’s eventual height is 4 meters ! Will look good with the smaller ones in front .

Picking heap’s of stuff from the vege patch and some big tomatos on the kitchen window sill ripening.
2 sorts of pumpkin seedlings up Shell Bells qld blue and butternut. I will thin them this weekend to one good plant each otherwise my garden will be overrun with them.
Beans are up and grown a 25 cm high in a week.
The candy beet’s are huge and I’ll pick and bottle them this weekend too. Some kept for roasting.

Chookie news:
The next oldest chook Spot , who was separated because she started eating eggs , is now on her way to chook paradise.. won’t eat or drink so just a day or 2 and there will be 5 chickens left, Ringo and the 4 younger one’s whose name’s I have forgotten..
I would like to get another layer to replace Spot.

Got a smattering of rain last night 4.3 mm.

Must run

Only getting a chance to pop in here now and again, myself and might miss some news…

Fairly wet here too! In fact more water around, and last night flowing, at the back of my place, through the main chookpen, than I’ve seen in the 21 yrs thatI have lived here. Suspect landscaping works in the 2 neighbouring properties might tend to divert run off this way – during the drought that wasn’t a problem! Am going to have to fire up the mower soon, at least at the front. Poultry have kept jungle in check in the backyard. Toying with idea of letting them helping the overgrown frontyard too :D

Yes Mum has settled in her new place and it is a load off her mind I think..

Looking after the big house was becoming onerous and didn’t make sense with just here there..

still a bit of havoc out on the roads. many traffic lights still out of action and a back-log of calls needed to be made by the SES. A bit more wet and windy weather expected today but not as bad as yesterday. A few people from work have decided to “work from home” today, one fellow turning back home after taking half an hour to do the first 3 mins of his run in.
