You have to be kidding. Drones culdn’t stand up to wildfires. They’d drop out of the sky like flies.

1000 drones drop 1 tonne of water every 3.6 seconds on the same patch if need be

To carry a tonne of water the drone would have to be as large as a helicopter.

We’ve been through this bullshit a thousand times with Wookie.

a helicopter has to carry a man and all the equipment to allow the man to fly the helicopter, then you’ve got spare capacity to carry a second person
who says you need a helicopter, a fixed wing would be good too, maybe a flying wing approach
no pilots needed
a virtually automated process where the firechiefs or people on the ground call in the drones as they need for an airstrike
it would be cheaper to build the drones than sustain the losses
a drone fleet could be compensated by an insurance company by putting out the fires, the insurance companies make the decision as to whether properties will burn – when they refuse to insure you let the home owners know and they switch their insurance to someone that will
the insurance company that plays the game gets properties insurance and the home owner has better odds of staying alive and saving their houses

No, Wookie is right. A drone could easily carry a kg of water. Also, 1000 1 kg loads of water would be far more effective at putting out spot fires from flying embers than one 1000 kg load – ideally both would be used together. PS, I’d also add fire retardant chemicals to the water. So 1000 drones could easily carry 1 tonne of water. My main concern is that drone batteries go flat really fast. A 25 minute flight time while carrying a 1 kg load would be about the limit, so you’d need to recharge a battery every 1.5 seconds.
you’d most likely use petrol / diesel for a fixed wing drone
you need to set up an airfield near water
you’d have multiple refuelling points for redundancy
I’m not sure if the smaller drones could handle turbulent air in bushfires
California wildfires destroy 1,000 homes with tally rising daily

ok, i’ll be back with this or a similar thread with the next bushfire, that’s just how I roll

If this El Nino acts how the dart throwers predict California’s drought should get washed away this year.

it better…
I put in a rather large order for fire-fighting pumps last week…
only fire fighting flying drones will stop bush fires
they can move quickly
they can travel into in accessible areas
they can deliver large amounts of water cheaply
they don’t need lots of humans to do the job
they can drop water onto fires accurately
they are much cheaper to operate , quicker to respond to serious situations
they can be transported quickly to anywhere in the world and start operating quickly

But they frizzle like a cigarette paper in a quick puff of wind at the campfire.
