Subject: iPhone ios9 update woes

Hi all – I’m rather distressed regarding the latest iPhone update – I had some trouble downloading the update today and thought perhaps it was our slow internet/wifi speed – or busy internet traffic generally (my daughter updated her phone with no trouble, but that was late last night).

anyhow- after several attempts I managed to download the update – however, once downloaded, it did not seem to want to do much else.. I’m not even sure if it installed or what. It turned itself off as expected, and then the apple logo appeared with the line underneath it that never, ever completed. I’m afraid by this time, I was more than a little impatient, and tried to make it respond or hurry the hell up and I think I held down the on/off button… then the connect to iTunes logo thingo appeared.. so I plugged it in and iTunes commenced downloading the whole damn update thing all over again… but then, was unable to install it.

It tells me that I must restore the phone to factory settings.

I’m loath to do that, as, of course, I did not back up everything before attempting to update. (I tried but gave up when the phone would not back up any more than about 100 photos) – I’m not even sure that restoring to factory settings will fix it anyway ?? I don’t have any error number to refer to, but I’m hoping for a fix (of course) or else some website recommendations or even some ideas on how to word my google search. There’s stuff on apple’s community support forums, but my search is perhaps too vague.

-any suggestions welcome

oh, and I can take myself down to the apple store tomorrow, with a box of tissues – but if there’s a way to get my phone back beforehand, I’ll be happy. I need my phone for work -being a casual, I get shifts at short notice. cheers

Back up everything to the Cloud before you do any updates. iOS 9 has been a bitch for everyone! (I haven’t upgraded yet, am waiting for the patch).

The patch, is you.

There is no other.

The people who see it as a bitch are looking for the easy way out. Expecting someone to stop them bitching by supplying the answer.

If it gets any worse, I’ll be gone entirely.

aye DA I had wanted to hold off for a while, but I couldn’t ignore that annoying little red circle thingo any longer.. And although I did attempt to back up my stuff to icloud, it wouldn’t play the game and I became impatient. Eventually it all came good – I made sure I updated iTunes on my desk top (but even that was a chore)

Many of the complaints that I found regarding the ios9 update were similar to my issue I guess – that is, the phone just being stuck seemingly forever and locked like that. Anyway, after a rather stressful time, all’s well now.

I don’t have a smart phone, I don’t trust them.
Overnight the BBC did an interview with Eddy Snowden, he said that MI5 or some such can hack your smart phone, turn it on and off, and even listen to your non-phone conversations.

Aye, in the secure rooms at Russell you cannot even take a mobile in, you leave them at the counter in a little pigeonhole. Even switched off, nefarious types can use them for derring dos and you are not even aware of it.

okey dokes - it mentioned that it can be sent a message that would be hidden from you….. but wouldn’t you at least notice if your phone were turned on or off ?

Whatever they get up to, turning it off is not a defence.

Yes-. but you would surely notice if it were remotely turned on/off. I mean to alert you that something was a bit funny with your phone.

In the meantime, I will persevere with mine
