You couldn’t flick it open for a quick scan? Sounds craptacular.

Well that is one sales technique I suppose, giving a consumer less information. Unless I knew the author I wouldn’t buy a book without being able to have a quick scan.

I’d be very wary of buying books like that; unsold books have their covers removed and returned to the publisher as unsold. The books themselves (sans cover) are not supposed to be sold (and you’ll see a prohibition on the copyright page of most books), but should be destroyed. If the books has no cover the author and publisher aren’t getting their money.

if you hated the book, I wonder if you can go back and get a refund

Wonder what their return policy is like? I can imagine people buying the books, opening them in the store and then wanting a refund, but the books are most likely all new releases, so not too much of a surprise for most people.
i’d imagine there’d be a whole book inside. it is just a gimmick. bit like a mystery tour.

Ah, second-hand books. Fark that’s expensive stuff! Wonder how many are paperbacks?
I have been really spoilt with books over here and people complain about the costs of paperbacks.
yeah.. Elizabeths is a well known second hand book store here… they used to be everywhere, but now just the sity and Fremantle AFAIK

The kids are into retro. They are very interested in vinyl records now. Books could be next.
