Subject: faulty phone

I bought a smartphone about 2 months ago and I’m having problems with it. It has intermittent faults. Sometimes the touchscreen won’t work and I have to switch it off to get it working again. Sometimes the keyboard malfunctions, printing a character totally different from the one I have selected. Sometimes it leaves spaces between letters when texting. Sometimes it locks in landscape orientation and I have to switch off to get it working again.

I’m taking it back tomorrow morning. These faults are intermittent so obviously it will be working perfectly when I take it back. What can I expect? Will they replace it, or will they say they’ll send it back to the manufacturers for assessment. Can they reasonably expect me to be without my phone while they get it assessed?

Anyone had any experience of this scenario?

Other dodgy Samsungs I’ve encountered have been battery problems. I don’t have a Samsung so I can’t help much.

Next time it locks in landscape, take a video of that with another phone so you can show them.

Before returning the phone you should try doing a factory reset (back your data and contacts first). This will probably cure the problem.

Yes. If you haven’t already.
