Subject: Suicide Callbackservice

Hiya Folks,

I was flicking through some posts trying to catch up with everyone, when I read a couple of posts that concerned me. Anyway can’t remember who that was now, but I thought I would put this up here – I think if everyone has it saved in their mobile phones for the times when a friend/forumite/family member feels not so good – well it could be a helpful thing. Suicide Prevention is up to us all. Too many precious people get lost and that is so very sad for the rest of us.

Not meaning to upset anyone – but my thought it is best to put this up and centre just in case someone needs to talk to someone.

I can’t find my mobile phone. I had it yesterday. I haven’t been anywhere and it doesn’t ring when I call the number.

I’ve had an inch of rain.

If I’d suicided, how could I call back?

Recently started on medicine for depression. I’m not the type who normally goes to doctors unless I really, really have to. I’ve been having suicidal thoughts for over a year now, which have escalated in the past few months.

I know your post wasn’t directed at me, ms spock (because I haven’t mentioned it here before), but thanks for the concern you are showing. It can actually make a difference, knowing that there are strangers out there who care, as well as family and friends.

Depression sucks. Suicidal thoughts suck. The rational part of ones mind can get “curb-stomped” so easily by such things. As someone who prides themselves on being a rational, skeptical, thoughtful human being, I find it extremely vexing that my brain can so easily abandon these things just because… “feelings”.

There used to be a common saying about 30 years ago, “A cuppa tea a Bex and a good lie down”

Thanks CE.

With a wry smile, I’ll say things couldn’t really get worse for me at the moment, so the only way is up… or out.

The ridiculous thing is that whilst I’ve been having suicidal thoughts, I actually have never had any intention to follow through on those thoughts. So, it’s like I’m saying to my own brain “Make up your freakin’ mind, dude.” It’s like my own brain is trolling me!. It’s weird.

So much doubt in a person, can come from their “deep core beliefs” ,meaning that the attitudes your parents imposed on you still linger with you.

Reminds me of a John Cleese skit “have you considered suicide … it can be the easy way out you know … no suicide, I suppose I’ll have to try to cure you then”.

That was in the days before Posh Spice.

So glad you are getting some practical support. Going on medications can be rugged and challenging at times, some people have to try a few meds before they get the right ones. Good luck!

It is a difficult thing Depression and suicidal thoughts as well.

Take care and make sure you give a shout out if you need some disco dancing, light humour or a hand.
