At least it’s better than ‘The Bachelorette’.

Some reasonably attractive and possibly intelligent girl sits one of a variety of unlikely settings, and talks to some bloke.

Later, she sits in another setting, and talks to another bloke.

Later, she does the same thing again. Ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

I can see why it’s popular with women – all that talking, talking, talking.

But, as entertainment, it’s like watching dog poo turn white in the sun, but significantly less interesting.

Do you want a list of other TV programs that should also be called “The Crock”? I can think of at least a hundred without even trying.

I’m not sure why it would be called that… that name would make no sense at all for the show.

I know what you mean, I just don’t agree that it should be called that because it just wouldn’t make any sense… you see it’s a reality renovation show and the name, ‘The Block’, is a reference to the building site to which the show is based around….

‘The Crock’ just wouldn’t invoke the same imagery.

A philosophy of a rich tapestry is a bit of a conundrum as it also includes those with season tickets.

I looked up hilberts hotel, but I couldn’t figure out how a hotel with infinite rooms could not accomodate an infinite amount of guests and how it could ever be fully occupied and gave up.

“New Tricks” is on at the same time as “The Block”.

Instead of listing crock TV programs, it is easier to produce a much shorter list of those programs that aren’t crock. Disclaimer up front – some programs were good to start with but stayed on TV for far too long, eg. Simpsons. Some of the following will be in that list.

Good or at least half-decent TV programs:

Tomorrow Today (made in Germany in the English language)
Euromaxx (ditto)
Global Village (dubbed by Silvio Rivier)
Thalassa (ditto)
360’ Geo (ditto)
Burn Notice
Top Gear
Ninja Warrior (the original, not the American)
The Living Room
Better Homes and Gardens
MacGyver
JAG
Charmed
Medium
CSI-Cyber
Futurama (too many ads)
Simpsons (too many ads)
Thunderbirds (the original with supermarionation)
Landline
Gardening Australia
Antiques Roadshow
Scooby-Doo (original animated)
Person of Interest (early episodes)
Bones (in small doses)
Blindspot (only one episode so far)
Extant (so far)
any Hayao Miyazaki film
lots of documentary mini-series
Rise of the Machines
Strip the City
Cities of the Underground
Quantum Leap
Catalyst (but only 50% of episodes)
News on 3
BTN = Behind the News
Shaun the Sheep – and other Nick Park animations
Friends (in small doses)
Big Bang Theory (early episodes)
Totally Wild
Toasted TV (sometimes)
Scope
Touched by an Angel (in small doses)
M*A*S*H
Art Attack
The Little Prince (in small doses)
Auction Hunters (early episodes)
Midsomer Murders
Rosemary and Thyme (early episodes)
Poirot / Miss Marple
Ben 10 (early episodes)
Gruen (in small doses)
Spicks and Specks (original series)
Air Crash Investigation
New Tricks
Foyle’s War
The Mentalist (early episodes)
Megastructures
The Flying Show (in small doses)
Live at the Apollo & other stand-up comedy
The Last Leg (sometimes)
Good Game SP (in small doses)
Horrible History (in small doses)
Drunk History
Dynamo & other magic shows
4WD TV (in small doses)
Aussie Hunting Adventures (in small doses)
Mythbusters (early episodes)
Sacred Spaces
Red Dwarf (early episodes)
Nowhere Boys
Scorpion (perhaps)
anything by David Attenborough
Sex and the City (in small doses)
Dr Who
Mega builders
Mighty Planes (sometimes)
NCIS (original series)
Have You Been Paying Attention? (in small doses)
The Feed (in small doses)
Pie in the Sky

See that’s a much shorter list than the list of rubbish TV programs. So with all that choice, nobody would bother watching “The block”.

I don’t really mind The Block… although I haven’t really watched this season (for a number of reasons) but in general I do like to see the sorts of renovation and decoration ideas people come up with – some of it is quite innovative.

The manipulated scripted drama is annoying though and to me shows just how unimaginative a TV show can get. I wonder if any reality TV show is real or just scripted spontaneous events.

Viewers respond to people they love to hate. Within ‘reality’ TV you also have people deliberately cast to clash with other contestants. Drama sells, then afterwards you see a slew of media from the “victims” saying they were portrayed badly. Boo hoo, haven’t they ever seen the show before applying?

Clearly an audience that has a skewed vision of how society works is what the producers are intent upon creating.

I also find it strange that many parents are against their children’s watching shows with violence but are OK or perhaps they don’t even think about it with them watching soapies with backstabbing manipulative characters.

Aren’t people on this thread assuming that there are some people who actually watch “the block”? It’s probably the case that perhaps 99% of all people who have the TV tuned to that program at that time don’t actually watch it, they just have the TV tuned to one station all day in order to provide background noise.
