Something’s happened to my Windows 8. Various open windows seem to automatically minimise themselves after a few minutes. Also, running slide shows in Windows Live is no longer possible. The first slide displays, the second one starts but then abruptly reverts to Photo Gallery. When I open Photoshop and leave it inactive, the window doesn’t minimise but the coloured title bar at the top and the cursor both flash every few seconds.

Anyone here have any clue what’s going on and what I can do to get it back to normal?

bubblecar, I’m going to hazzard a guess and say it is a stuck key on your keyboard or a dodgy mouse plying up.

If possibly swap put both and reboot to see if that fixes it before going software route.

It doesn’t have a touch screen by any chance, does it?

Ta stan, no it has a normal 27” monitor. I was thinking it might be the mouse so I changed the battery but that made no difference. I’ll plug in the corded mouse from the spare pooter and see what happens.

good luck.. it does sound like an input of some sort is triggering this.Even just unplug the keybpard and mouse as soon as you start watching images. See if it still happens.

Hmm, I just restarted, and Slide show worked for a while, then stopped. Also, the hard drive is making more noise than it normally does (it’s normally mostly silent).

OK, I ran System Restore, and even though on restart the message said that SR failed, it seems to have completely fixed the problem :)
