well I couldn’t work out why on earth a business would want another government tax that would obviously make the products they sell more expensive – people buy less product

but then I realised

more tax means that when it comes to many things people will just have to cop the higher price

if they buy less it wont matter because everything is so much more expensive the company will stay make the same or money because people will have to buy it anyway.

less stuff being sold, more expensive , still have to buy means that transport costs go down because they are shifting less product for more money

more government revenue from the punter means the government is less likely to go after corporate to get the money they need – for years these people have minimised their tax, now the government has had a crack down the most obvious thing to do is give the government what they want – more money. by increasing the citizens tax burden the corporate taxes are yet once again ignored and everything goes back to normal

companies get government subsidies – no government revenue means no subsidies – raising tax means the subsidies will flow

government contracts need government money – more government money – more contracts

once you start thinking for yourself you start putting the pieces together – you’ll never read it though

its why unemployment is so good for the economy – it keeps wages down and throws millions of people under the bus

you have enough unemployment to keep wages down and not enough to start a war/ crime wave that does serious damage (though serious damage is something someone can make money from)

Prosecutors say their year-long investigation has laid bare systematic corruption in the city, as politicians, bureaucrats and businessmen hooked up with mobsters to rig public tenders on everything from creating refugee centres to rubbish collection.

The revelations appeared to go some way to explaining why Rome has fallen into such disrepair in recent years, its roads pitted with holes and its streets strewn with rubbish despite some of the highest local taxes in the country.

Pilot in wing suit makes ‘craziest base jump ever’ through tiny mountain hole (VIDEO)

An Italian pilot has made what has been hailed as the most incredible, and dangerous base jump ever. Uli Emanuele put on his wing suit, fixed his GoPro camera and managed to dive through a two-meter wide crevasse in a mountain.

Probably most of the people here are not sophisiticated enough to see the connection between that and GST

In spite of wookie’s best efforts to convince me otherwise, I am still opposed to an increase in the GST.

I am however in favour of increasing government revenue so they can maintain and improve government services without ever increasing debt.

If that means increasing taxation (which it almost certainly does), then obviously taxes should be increased.

Can anyone explain to me why absolutely no-one on the mainstream meeja is willing to even talk about raining income tax, but they talk about raising the GST all the time.

Is it because the average meeja person earns well above average income?

Indeed, there is still noise being made about lowering income taxes.

For mine, no one should be talking about any kind of tax cuts. The govt did enough damage by pointlessly abolishing two streams of revenue already.

For regular folk, income tax levels in Australia are low.

Someone with no children earning $60000 pays 18.4%
Someone with no children earning $120000 pays 27%.

Someone with 2 children earning $60000 pays NO INCOME TAX.
Someone with 2 children earning $120000 pays 24.5%.

Hockey was talking as though ordinary working people are paying nearly 50% tax, but it’s bullshit. Even to be paying 40%, you’d need to be on $530000. I think those people will survive without a tax cut.
