What would you plant in a corner that receives nearly no sun at all in winter but is currently in sun nearly all day long except perhaps early morning? Prefer eatables :))

how big is this corner? how much wind? good soil ?
probably its on the south side of something tall and exposed to the setting sun.

umm? – just about anything really – were you looking for a spot to transplant lettuce? if so – yes – rocket yes – corn, silver beet, sunflowers, zuchinis and many others – even basil and herbs.

Soil – haharha. Whatever gets planted will have a no dig put in.

It’s on the west corner of the house. In winter the sun doesn’t go high enough to go over the house next door and our house.

Wind – should be pretty quiet. It’s in the corner of the 6ft front fence. Wind tends to come from the south. It’s probably pretty sheltered.

How big? Hmmm, maybe 6ft x 6ft, give or take a few plants and odds and sods.

because they get sun all day there is no limit to the summer veges that can be planted there – apart from the gravelly soil.

It is ear marked as “Frog Corner”, but I didn’t realise how much sun it actually got in summer. I trimmed back some weedy things during winter and it opened it right up. The biggest issue that it is not on my automatic watering system, and anything that needs handwatering on daily/regular basis has a slimmer chance of survival around here.

water chestnuts?
anyway..point is that with little direct sunlight, and total shade in winter, it will hardly be a productive growing spot…unless you love lots of mint.

Something which is dormant in Winter. Tough as nails and can handle a lack of water.
Asparagus?

i thought with a name like aquarium you might be into aquaculture LOL.
the area has full sun at present so will grow any short lived summer veges.

i used to have a fairly high tech tropical aquarium setup, and it seemed as good a name as any to pick out of a hat.
anyway, that’s beside the point.
if the proposed growing area has good sunlight in summer = 6+ hours, then it will grow most crops for the summer season. if the same spot is dark and easily becomes waterlogged during winter/cold rains, then no edible crops can be grown there at that time, i.e. no herb or grape etc would survive unscathed the dark and wet even when dormant.
a green manure crop could be grown instead in winter.
if the area is a bit of an eyesore during winter, then the above will not really improve that…apart from being able to grow a summer crop of whatever. that’s where the suggestion comes in to just do up the area, and not worry particularly about trying to grow crops there.

at my place i have a large carport with a gate joining the house. it’s pretty gloomy looking there in winter. i had at one stage a number of potted plants under there, along the fence line. it didn’t improve the look of it much at all. now i just bought a couple of cheap/bright all-weather pictures and screwed them onto that dark fence. much better than all those plants, in terms of brightening it up.
