its funny

you see each successive government keep making the same fundamental mistakes with the same results

every now and then you’d bump into some old dude that would then be able to give a full run down on exactly what had been happening and putting into perspective perhaps 60 years of history

the same mistakes over and over again

then you’ve got the true believers – gullible people that have little in the way of critical thought – they swallow all this crap hook , line and sinker and wonder why things are getting worse

the plan as usual is to raise taxes again, so whilst jobs are going backwards (regardless of whatever information is being released from the government) the GST will be pushed up again to prop up companies that thrive on government contracts. its a sweet deal

my situation is fairly stuffed , i’ve sat back and watched educational courses grow more and more expensive , a diploma at TAFE costs 20,000 in Brisbane yet only perhaps 8 years ago it was costing 1500

people do sit back, they let it happen, stupid things

joe hockey is on record complaining about the cost of uni courses yet once in power a few decades later had already become part of the problem

the best teacher i ever had made nuclear bombs for the british

the lessons were clear and concise, structured all kinds of crazy things – he’d written his own course notes

i remember being at the apprentice centre first year and one of the trainers came to me telling me that TAFE had approached him to teach various subjects – i asked him exactly what and after thinking , advised him to not touch it with a barge pole

i hadnt been particularly impressed with the previous years at TAFE anyway. the teachers for the trades weren’t given standard teaching text, they had to create their own teaching texts meanign nothing was standardised

in QLD they have given up and are just giving them the answers now – its not feasible to teach

‘Plot to assassinate Putin foiled’

Two men were arrested by police in London over a suspected plot to kill Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to reports.

The Russian nationals, said to be renegade intelligence officers, were planning to have Mr Putin shot while on a foreign trip, according to the Sunday Times.

Scotland Yard confirmed that two Russian men had been held and questioned by anti-terrorist officers in London over a five-day period.

“We can confirm two men aged 40 and 36 were arrested by officers from SO13 (the anti-terrorist branch) on the morning of Sunday, October 12 in central London following allegations of offences under the Terrorism Act 2000,” a spokeswoman said.

She added that the men were released on Friday without further action but refused to confirm reports that this was on condition they returned to Russia.

SO13 was alerted when they received a detailed legal statement from a former intelligence officer in Russia’s FSB, the main successor organisation to the KGB, according to the newspaper.

The informant alleged that the two arrested men were trying to engage Russian exiles in Britain in the conspiracy to kill Mr Putin.

One of the suspects, reported to be a former KGB major, gave details of the plot to the informant in a phone call to him, the newspaper claimed.

But the informant feared that attempts were being made to set him up by implicating him in the plot and reported the incident immediately.

Sigmund Freud considered shooting the messenger a “marginal case of this kind of defense…of fending off what is distressing or unbearable,” citing the example of “the famous lament of the Spanish Moors Ay de mi Alhama, which tells how King Boabdil received the news of the fall of his city of Alhama. He feels that this loss means the end of his rule. But he will not ‘let it be true….He threw the letters in the fire and killed the messenger.’”

Freud added that “a further determinant of this behaviour of the king was his need to combat a feeling of powerlessness. By burning the letters and having the messenger killed he was still trying to show his absolute power.”

Carl G. Jung, a peer of Freud’s, describes the Shadow in the individual as part of the unconscious mind, which is largely negative. “Everyone carries a shadow,” Jung wrote, “and the less it is embodied in the individual’s conscious life, the blacker and denser it is”. It may be in part one’s links to more primitive animal instincts, which are superseded in early childhood by the conscious mind . V.G. Hufnagel bioethics expert wrote, “the shadow of the institution protects its own fraternity”. The fraternity members form a collective and share a collective consciousness with a predatory instinctive animal in nature and hold the fears of childhood. These fears stimulate actions to destroy any message that may harm them. There is no cognitive process in these actions. These are forced on death of an individual and of an idea through human sacrifice. There are religious aspects to these actions. The fraternity of authority believes it holds a right to exterminate those who could harm them.

The Shadow is also part of the psychology of institutions. Institutions however have enormous funds to use unlike the individual whistleblower. Institutions also have massive communication systems and a loyal population that supports the institution.

A modern version of attacking the messenger can be perceived when someone blames the media for presenting bad news about a favored cause, person, organization, etc. The fact remains that “shooting the messenger may be a time-honored emotional response to unwelcomed news, but it is not a very effective method of remaining well-informed.”

Getting rid of the messenger may be a tactical move, but danger found in nondisclosure may result in either hostile responses or negative feedback from others. “People learn very quickly where this is the case, and will studiously avoid giving any negative feedback; thus the ‘Emperor’ continues with the self-delusion….Obviously this is not a recipe for success.” Barbara Ehrenreich in Bright-sided/Smile or Die argued that a culture of “thinking positive” so as to “purge ‘negative people’ from the ranks… the bubble-itis” of the 2000s.

Reactions to the whistleblowing organization WikiLeaks led to calls not to shoot the messenger.

Don’t know what’s been happening lately but this forum usually works pretty well by people ignoring Chat comments that don’t interest them, rather than telling the poster to “fuck off”, as it seems Boris did last night. No need for that kind of aggro.

there’s no negotiation just shoot to kill when the first team gets there – they have the authority to storm the building as soon as it happens

in the chocolate hostage situation the police sat and waited , then the swat team sat around and waited – the command structure is paralysed in the face of the new paradigm

the lindt cafe siege was not an organised terroist attack.. just some lone dude who thought he had control – he didn’t. in the recent cases, storm and shoot seems sage.. they knew the perps were not planning on coming out alive.. better to save some than none. IMO

sure, but they plan on using them anyway..

I had thought the fact that one detonated outside the stadium a bit odd, why outside, when inside would be a better target? apparently they were turned away… so said some new outlet

so, guy goes to gate, security pats him down, says no go away… security then does not contact anyone about the suspicious dude they just turned away? what’s going on there?
