garlic is dropping – lack of water probably?
beans are yellowy – i don’t know why – maybe a lack of sun.

Ckeck the base of the garlic out…. maybe nibbled at or something stood on them????

We got nothing here @ Parafield.
nothing visible on the roots of the garlic.
applied potash to one patch of peas and urine to another. i think its a nitrogen deficiency associated with too much or too little of something. if this doesn’t green them up i’ll try a dilute mix of molasses, epsom salts and borax. i regularly feed with worm wee, pigeon poo and seaweed.

peas shouldn’t need nitrogen. you could be giving them too much with all that pigeon poo.

I’m not even in the line up yet – I’ve direct sowed some seeds but they haven’t come up yet, either that or the birds got them. Mind you Melbourne is having a cool spring this year by the looks of it so maybe they are just waiting for the soil to warm up a bit more.

neither potash nor nitrogen worked on the beans so i have tried epsom salts and molasses (magnesium) since the veins are green and the leaves yellow like in citrus.
probably just dryness in the garlic. with mid week waterings allowed now, weeding finished and my winter garden coming to a close i can probably correct the watering.
celery going to seed with onions in the background, sweetpeas and spuds, bottlebrush in the native corner, lemon verbena making a comeback from my pruning

this little welcome swallow (?) was staring out thru’ the glass of the slow combustion heater this morning. they must come down the flue – pass the sooty smoke chambers and finally into the burning chamber.

i bought seedlings – italian parsley, zucchinis, and lebanese cucumber to replace losses.
i’ll do my watering and plant out tonight.

That’s a great shot there Pepe. We have to fill our birdbath daily around here. I’m glad the birds don’t use towels and bath mats as well cause I’d be washing every day too.

good morning,
i’m a morning person which is good, because that’s the best time of day, but this morning i walk through so many spider webs that i reckon these hot nights see a lot of interesting activity as well.
many plants love the heat – corn, cueys, toms, basil all grew inches yesterday. even the yellowing beans seem to have greened up.
picking strawbs (just 2 fruit) – and baby spinach is only a week away.
Morning from me too. Hot and windy here. The vege patch is looking like a jungle. Today I’ll ferret for some spuds. The celery is stunning to eat just picked. Cauli’s however are coming out , the small heads are’t well formed, I will put some silverbeet in their place. Hers a flower pic for yous, Dianthus ‘cherry pie’.

Ohh poo ,wrong thread. sorry Peps

i’ve been won over to lucky’s potash treatment. i’m dosing spuds, strawbs, toms, brassicas and beans with soluble potash and seaweed (maxicrop) every week now.

out of interest what does your moon chart say about november 12th?
i haven’t lost any plants since then, my beans have greened and a lot of pests disappeared.
the potash does seem to help the flowering plants.

those onions i bought from virgara haven’t kept too well – about15 of them have gone rotten.
so their produce is cheap – but none too fresh.

Oh yes please…… love some. Will have some extra tomato seedlings by the end of the year, if they germinate too, for ewe:D

ok – i’ll pot some spinach seedlings up.
if you give me toms i’ll try to grow some in the hothouse over winter. i’ve run out of space and water in the garden.
how are your toms looking now?

Mine were a dismal failure. All pulled out now and composted.
the tree feller felled 6 dead pines and had them sawn up by lunchtime. it would have taken me four days.
i spent the whole day sorting and stacking the wood

mine were self sown and a pure fluke – they grew themselves on the windy west side of the shed.

i planted them 21st september – spring equinox.
i will plant the winter onions about 21st march – the autumn equinox.
on both occasions i try to plant the seed about 8 weeks (or more) prior to that date
8 week old seedlings are usually big enough to plant.

Mmmm, they tend to go gluey when you mash ‘em. I mash some up one day; it was like eating pre-school glue.
Probably the only thing I like about Woolies F&V – the potatoe signs tell you what they’re good for. Handy for working out what to do with the spuds you’ve got in the pantry already ;-) (Or the ground LOL)
i’m proud of these golden ash and carob trees that we grew from seed. we moved them here in pots after selling our old property, they provide cooling summer shade. unfortunately the golden ash have aggressive roots and will be felled over the next several years.
