After living in the house in Cobram for 6 months earlier this year, I developed a further interest in the paranormal. I believe there’s something going on, but I can’t exactly explain what it is. I have a few ideas but of course I’m not 100% sure what’s happening.

My auntie used to run the ghost tours through Hobart’s courthouse, but sold that business a few years ago.

My ex-fiance was very much “tuned-in” to it, but I wasn’t. She would easily see shadows in the shapes of people, mainly at the front door and in the lounge room, and in the bedroom she also claimed there was an angry spirit, who at one time made it feel like it stabbed her in the bottom of her foot with a large needle. The most I saw were shadows while in the carport alongside the garage in the backyard, late at night. But I can write that off as being my eyes playing tricks on me, seeing shadows because of how I was moving my torch.

I’ve since started watching things like Ghost Adventures (US show) and am interested to know the views of skeptics as to what is happening and the causes of things, and specifically in this episode here:

Ghost Adventures S04E16 (42mins, dailymotion.com)

This episode shows prior footage where there was a brick picked up off the ground and “thrown” towards them, as well as numerous recordings that were captured, most of which are relevant to the current situation and in response to questions asked.

I’m interested to know thoughts of any skeptics that might be interested in watching the above episode.

FMD, these things are within the capability of modern TV production.

It’s on the Travel Channel in the US, which as far as i can tell is about the equivalent of a traditional plumber’s crack. You know it’s there, but nobody wants to see it.

were for a long time accepted as being genuine by a large number of intelligent people, in spite of looking like exactly what they were.

The show you were watching is a form of entertainment. It is not a documentary in the normal sense.

I’ve just been interested in the possibility of something being there, but not sure if there is or not. I haven’t seen anything myself that I can classify as proof to myself that spirits can talk to you or run around throwing bricks and rocks at people.

Still find it interesting though. And it’s sparked my curiosity after things that happened in the house at Cobram.

there is a thing now on conspiracy forums to post UFO gear that is cgi. the forum immediately breaks down into two camps, one speculating on what the aliens are up to and the other spotting artifacts and proving it is cgi.

I’ve seen episodes where it’s all done in one shot. They have the voice recorder going, they ask a question, then wait a few seconds. Press stop and playback, and there’s a whispering voice after the question they ask. Not every time, but sometimes.

Even if it is all bullshit, I still like watching it lol… Kind of like how people watch the news. Or current affairs. Or other bullshit like that.

I’ve been in this hose about a month now and still find it strange. The old house sat on bluestone foundations and was quite a way from the neighbours – at least for a suburban hood.

This place is cheek by jowl with nextdoor, and sits on stumps. The neighbour walks down his hallway and I can hear someone walking down mine. You get used to it.

Although I do thank god most mornings that we’re located directly above a ley line. Good luck is just around the corner, mark my words.

My parents used to live in a house many years ago (40+) that had something unusual happen. They had just cleaned the kitchen and wiped down the bench and sink, closed the window, and gone to the lounge room to watch TV. Soon afterwards, they heard the kitchen window slide open and the sound of someone jump from the bench to the floor. Their dog went running in there, and they followed it, only to find the window still close, and a footprint on the sink.

Every night from that night onwards, there was a whitetail spider in their bed, right until the time they moved out.

Just various things like this that happen that continue to spark my interest (but still skepticism as I haven’t experienced anything concrete myself) in paranormal stuff.

The thing about shows like that is that you know how they are going to end, with inconclusive evidence at best. Because, if they ever found anything tangible you would have heard about it already…

JTQ, here’s a story that you will find interesting.

A friend of mine told me a story of an experience she had when she was invited to a male friends apartment for dinner one night.

The apartment was on the 5th floor.

Looking out a window into the darkness outside my friend swears she saw a woman outside the apartment staring back at her.

Later, during the evening my friend saw a photograph of a woman hanging on a wall in the apartment that she swears was the same woman staring in at her from outside the apartment 5 floors up.

She asked the host who the woman was in the photo & the host informed her that she was a close family member that had died a few years earlier!

Whe my friend told him that she had seen this woman staring into the apartment at her he said “yes, I see her all the time.

My friend by the way is a raving lunatic who comes along with these sorts of stories all the time.”

I wonder if ghosts could be explained by something along the lines of something existing at a lower energy state and on occassion can interact with our world, but then again its all probably rubbish. It would be interesting to try and explain the paranormal / supernatural using scientific principles, ie they aren’t magic and adhere to our current or as yet undiscovered knowledge.

Science hasn’t even got much of a handle on how consciousness arises.. so good luck with that

I wonder if it will get to a point were CGI is done so well even “what you call experts” won’t be able to tell it faked as the physics, artifacts, etc match reality.

someone told me they used to visit a property owned by their relatives, it had been purchased many years ago but no one wanted tio stay there

as soon as the light fell you’d hear someone chopping up wood just outside the house and would go on all night long in some cases

Go watch Blair Witch Project, Mr Q. It’s a documentary about this stuff.
