Scientists have identified a cluster of genes in the brain that could determine human intelligence.

The two clusters – called M1 and M3 – are networks of hundreds of individual genes that are thought to influence all our cognitive functions – including memory, attention, processing speed and reasoning.

The original article in Nature
is very interesting. They set out to find genes associated with epilepsy, autism and schizophrenia.

“As starting material we used 122 fresh-frozen samples of human whole-hippocampus from people with epilepsy”. Yum.

150 genes in complex M3 is a percentage of all the genes in the whole human genome.
