Subject: Battery chargers with temp sensors

Would it possible to design a battery charger that senses the temperature of the battery using the positive connection to the battery, when the temp gets to high the charger turns off or reduces the charging rate.

Many commercial chargers use temperature sensors (and cooling systems), especially fast chargers, to avoid damage to the batteries being charged.

I just did a google search for battery charger with temperature sensors

they are many out there

I was wondering why that hover board charger failed or perhaps it didnt have a temp sensor

not uncommon would’ve thought, too something that adjusts for ambient.

the IxV power goes into recombination at whatever efficiency, then as it reaches full charge the IxV goes more into heat, which might cause drying out of electrolyte and other sorts of damage.

you can get damage from excessive discharge rate also.

it’s probably shorting out

a temp sensor wouldn’t help you

these things are going up in smoke when they aren’t on charge
