Subject: Power supply

I’m after an un-interruptible power supply that can run a 240 volt modem for a few hours.

Any suggestions?

Depends how much you want to spend.

For a cheap and easy option, when I am without mains power, I tether my laptop to my mobile phone and use that as a modem

I use a mobile hotspot.

It comes with a battery but plug it in and it recharges.

I’m guessing that your 240 volt modem actually runs off a 12v plugpack (or similar) which you could substitute for batteries.

If there is no plugpack then a switching DC input socket could be fitted to the device to allow the use of batteries.

A UPS is just a big rechargeable battery bank.
