Subject: The Square Root Of Sarcasm Is Xenophobia.
It just occurred to me that xenophobia is a likely area around which sarcasm evolved. There are other areas sarcasm might have begun perhaps, but given that xenophobia would have been reliably present throughout the ages so would there have been the need of the non-xenophobic to apply wit to managing the attitudes that develop through the xenophobic nature.
I think the general area of humor development is of interest so I guess this is a good place to start. It’s known the content of prehistoric graffiti was little different to that of the modern adolescent so it isn’t hard to assume we’ve always found the same sorts of things humorous. If the lowest form of humor is sarcasm is that where it began?

I am seeking debate on the subject or reference to historical data. “It just occurred to me” was a literal reference. I don’t have better facility for research than this method as of the current date.

I assume he squared xenophobia and compared it to sarcasm.
I am not convinced that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit by the way.

The thread title is not intended to be a statement of fact. It is an opening remark and observation for discussion. Sarcasm would have found various areas for development. Politics is a likely area for it to be developed knowing the nature of politics. This provides a fairly narrow demographic for development so I have raised the question of how much xenophobia will have contributed to the development of sarcasm/humor in the general population.
I have also raised the question of whether sarcasm may have been the most likely form of humor to have developed the human sense of humor. I haven’t made a statement one way or the other, aside from the “it just occurred to me” remark.
I also didn’t state my opinion as agreeing with the sarcasm is the lowest form of humor philosophy. It is just a reference to raise a question.
