Yes Dinetta, I have both the white and red varieties. They have suffered a bit in the dry up here in FNQ, but will come into there own in the wet season when little else grows. They are good in a salad leaf mix, but are a bit slimy in a stir fry. (just like okra!)
Hope this helps

I’ve no idea.
I grow the red one B. alba “Rubra”. The ducks love it. Never really cook it much more than a wilt – add at last moment. Good for adding a bit of green colour but I don’t eat much of it.
Berries produce a (mulberry) red dye which can be as food colour according to Penny Woodward’s “Asian Herbs &Vegetables – How to identify, grow and use them in Australia” Lots of info a great book..
I’d be surprised if they were toxic to any livestock…mentions mild laxative properties though so might loosen them up a bit.
Mucilaginous qualities handy for thickening soups and stews.
No idea what I did to strike out that bit about the book – it was NOT intended :)
Is this the creeper spinach? I just ordered some of that from Diggers. Dad said it grew well in Darwin, so I’m hoping it grows well here in Brisvegas.

Thanks Chrispy
Are you telling me that they are thirsty plants? If this is so, I guess I might cross them off my list…my plants need to survive about 3 – 5 days without water sometimes….
Thanks to all for the responses…
