Subject: Dogfight Drone's

They’ve already got a drone grand-prix going. It would require greater parcels of land to stage but with infrared it is also possible to have various classes of dogfight drones. Something like,,,,

Apache v tank style team melee’s

Jet-drone dogfighting

More standard quad-drones kitted out for counter-detection/search and destroy

I just thought I’d put the idea up for dissection and development. Seems a better area for developing technology familiarity in the community than the high end of technology is currently providing to civilians.

I’ll also posit formation drone dancing as a possible future Nerd-Olympic event. So I also have to suggest a Nerd-Olympics(equal opportunity is only fair……..).

hexacopters would be better

if one motor flakes out it could still limp home

in the future you might find quad copters will race across the landscape to take out line targets

small drones will be used for assassinations

No. The whole point would be for a team to build, in this case, jet powered drone that can be controlled from remote goggles and fought by the team pilots. You seem to be missing the point of competitive development.

Still not getting it. It doesn’t need to ‘limp home’ because it would be within a competitor zone. Read the OP properly.

You don’t get the same social effect of encouraging youth into tech areas(of greater significant value).

You don’t understand the concept of regulation and handicapping in tech/motorsport do you? You have to regulate the design to place limits that must be overcome on each type of competition.

A while ago a friend and I built some radio-controlled military aircraft (including jet-engined and propeller-driven), and fitted them with home-made, working air-to-air rockets, designed to self-destruct if they hadn’t hit their target after a given time, and used them for aerial dogfights. The rockets were launched from the remote control handset (which was purpose-designed and built.)

We managed to destroy about 20 model aircraft each.

Or in my case since I was 55. Feeling jealous.

What I had in mind was to get the drones (or balloons or kites) to trail carbon fibre strings studded with nanodiamonds to saw into the wing or rotor of any military plane or helicopter unlucky enough to pass below. Like fighter kites but updated to more modern technology.

high altitude balloons with a few air to air missiles slung underneath is another option

some balloons will be armed , others won’t

an aerial minefield will mean incoming aircraft won’t be able to know which balloons are harmless and which aren’t

you might have circling drones with very long wings for lift powered by solar

the drones circle around endlessly dropping air to air missiles as the enemy approaches

sure you might be pop off a few missiles but counter measures can be dropped by hundreds of these things filling the sky with chaff

friendly aircraft will fly into the minefield being covered by the drones above and around

australia would be better off fighting a defensive war assuming a looming battle for foreign owned assets in say 30 years time

an australian government comes to power that promises to nationalise foreign owned assets , the foreign power with most to lose objects and decides to seize back the nationalised assets

australia then fights a war to stop aerial bombardment

ICBMs strike the major capitals with conventional warheads MOAB or FOAB style , in a war of assets the cities are of no consequence, the assets are in the agricultural/ mining output, most likely mining sites would be seized back after a first strike crippling the cities causing law and order to break down after three days of power losses and no running water

a counter strike by australian ICBMs hits foreign assets as a tit for tat blow

australia readies its armed forces (a sizeable number of casualties were taken in the first strike on military bases)

foreign subs land troops on to the mainland to disrupt railway lines/ road networks , collapsing a bridge across a motorway chokes traffic, planting timed explosives in the rubble keep clearance crews away

most likely the powerstations of australia will be hit in the first strike

QLDs power system is something like 90 percent run by coal – the coal fired stations will be hit and base load drops out, zone substations also being knocked out most likely the 132KV / 11KV types – when these things fall over no one gets power – they take too much time to put back together (a second strike on the site to kill utility workers should be expected)

water plants, dams, water treatment plants, the handful of oil refineries are hit

australia strikes back with its own ICBMs causing light damage

military targets such as major bases airforce/ navy/ army are hit on our side

australia decides to concentrate on high value targets such as power stations to cause disruption

resistance fighters deployed in northern territory to cause havoc amongst an invading force, they are used to target naval forces trying to land troops
