Whilst I realise a hangover is a dehydrated brain. To drink water seems logical to remedy the situation.

Why is it though that cold leftover pizza from the night before and a bottle of Coke seems to work to fix the problem as well?

Some people swear by berroccas the night after.

Any other odd suggestions that fix up a hangover?

Don’t engage in trying to get one?

I haven’t had a hangover for decades.

Same. Haven’t done a hangover for many years.

I used to take Brewer’s Yeast tablets with lots of water after a red wine evening. Worked for me.

Likely, “hangover is a dehydrated brain” isn’t correct, although many people do think that. A lot of people think that drinking water at the end of a night’s drinking can also cure a hangover. Seems that’s also not likely to be correct either. Research has shown no reliable cure for a hangover, although there are many, many folk remedies.

The Wikipedia article sums up what is known about hangovers very well.

A motorcyclist is in hospital after crashing into an unmarked police car while carrying a stubby of beer, in Melbourne’s outer south.

How to avoid a hangover.. Don’t do it man.

Ditto.
All I can add is that water doesn’t help. The blood brain barrier shuts down as the blood alcohol level drops.

“hangover cures” only work for mild hangovers IMO. If you have really let yourself go and get a proper one there’s nothing else for it but to lie down and sleep it off.

Sensible drinking solves the whole issue. Remembering what you did the night before is what is the cause of the effect.

Dehydration is usually associated with a headache. You can have a bad hangover that doesn’t include a headache. Nausea, fatigue and just a general “unwell” feeling, caused by an overdose of alcohol taxing the liver and kidneys as they take their time to process and expel the toxins. An intake of food can possibly relieve the symptoms by giving your system something else to do, but during a bad hangover most people don’t feel like eating. I suspect the real explanation is that by the time you feel like eating, you’re over the worst of it, and the energy intake gives you a boost.

Not recommended. Panadol is hard on the liver, and your liver is already trying to cope with the booze.

Some alcohols are better than others

Do really good wines create less hangovers?

im thinking that there’s a range of possibilities within wine making to make a wine that has hardly any hangover effect

or a beer for that matter

some cheap wines can create a hangover very quickly

Had a glass of one of those last night. I mean several airings of this dry red, eventually made it smoother and fruitier on the palate but the head foxtrotting wasn’t worth the enjoyment value.

By this I do mean that my head prewarned me that a second glass of this would not only continue the hangover I was already experiencing but that it would still be here tomorrow, if I didn’t stop now.

Sure. Alcohol is the crappiest of drugs. Doesn’t do anything for your mood after a few drinks.

If you go over the top a down a bottle of spirits or similar the resulting hangover self corrects this behaviour.

Why the system allows it mannn.

Panadol before and after

Water; before during and after.

Dr Karl is often saying that drinking water while consuming alcohol won’t make you less drunk (from the alcohol you consume) but will buy you time.

you drink the same amount of alcohol over a longer period of time giving the liver more processing time.

Which is along the lines of what I said?
