Being in charge of others doesn’t offer freedom, often the reverse, ask any politician or business manager.
There’s a good short story by Jeffrey Archer about this. About how on the management ladder from the bum on the sidewalk up to the managing director everyone thinks the person above them has an easier life, whereas in fact the opposite is true.
Some people get off on controlling others, it can be an almost sexual thing.
