going back to the thread about hi tech camouflage materials by moll

you need a system where the system isn’t allowed to be captured intact if the wearer dies

the suit needs to know the wearer is dead/ in capacitated and then go into self destruct so the enemy can’t examine and replicate the suit

the suit could be aware of the user , take their pulse and make an assessment about the user

if part of the suit becomes detached it needs to go into self destruct mode

If it is expensive to build you should make it keep the body alive and use it to artificially ambulate back to it’s rack, after finishing the mission……

it would need to be multi layered i guess but that increases cost

it would need to be able to keep the wearer cool and dry

having the skin perpetually wet causes things like foot rot, the suit might need to be impregnated with silver to stop infection taking hold

they are already bringing out super-resorbent materials for things like socks. Most of that would be fairly straight forward provided it had a self-sterilising function for when you have to cut a hole in your pants to shit while under extended hostile fire.

I have a strong dislike for self destruct clothing. Carrying stuff like armaments and heat exchangers on the battlefield is dangerous enough without adding to the danger with suits that self destruct if damaged or removed. Mythbusters did several episodes on clothing destruction by fire and explosion.

no wasn’t thinking of anything explosive or heat producing in any noticeable quantity

i was thinking that a brain sends a command that sends tiny electrical signals to effectively destroy the fabric in a way so that its nature can’t be deduced if it gets into enemy hands – it changes the nature of the material

another way to do it is that the suit material has a password , this way when the suit is removed the password is no longer provided and another password to be provided within a certain time or the material goes self destruct

the suit has lots of brains , if they try to take out one brain to disable the self destruct the suit recognises this

you could have chemicals in the suit which could render it useless

Or explode if touched by the enemy.

Cute point. Explosives are conventionally chemical.

You do realise a combat suit with built in self destruct becomes self sabotaging as soon as the enemy realises there is a fuse to it.

In this case the fuse is the death of the wearer so no problem.

Being a camouflage suit couldn’t it still camouflage a dead body and send out a signal so the dead soldiers companion can come and get them.
