Subject: creating a thermacline in a container

Hi team,

I would like to create a thermocline or two distinct types of similar viscosity liquid to do some personal experiments at home. I want to see how the liquids mix so I would like to use different coloured liquids or dyes but I would like them to perform in a similar way to fresh or salt water.

Could anyone here give me some starting points for liquids to try or how to actually create a thermocline in a small controlled envoiroment?

this is viscosity

dunno about a thermocline. maybe saltwater and fresh.

Thanks. I am trying to to see how waters of differing temperatures that make up a thermocline might mix if I would a tube or drinking straw in the water. The top of the tube would be higher than the top of the water surface.the bottom of the tube would be in the lower section of the thermocline. I then want to add water into the tube one drop at a time and see the result.

I am assuming that the water level of the tube would equalise with the surface of the main water body, pushing out the water at the bottom. I want to observe how this affects the thermocline and how much flow is needed to upset the balance and destroy the thermocline.
