I suppose private wealth can be seen as part of the external environment, and communism elevates the external environment as being a great determinant of (social) reality.

The Chinese economy is best described as a mixed economy, in which control of the means of production is divided more or less equally between the public and private sectors. There is no meaningful sense in which the Chinese economy can be considered communist, but the heavy involvement of the government in the economy means that it can reasonably be considered socialist. Since the late 1970s there has been a gradual shift towards what is termed a socialist market economy, which accelerated in the 1990s. From a Marxist point of you, the Chinese economy would be considered a form of state capitalism.

Socialists on a political forum will tell you that communism has never failed because it has never been achieved. Is China communist or govt controlled capitalism? To my mind it is not socialist at all.

It’s a single-party democracy.

Democracy usually entails some voting every now and again.

A glance at the electoral history section of the article suggests this may be a recent phenomenon.

One day the people of China are going to wake up and say “Hey wait a minute – this country is a shithole with vast disparities of wealth and a disgusting government run by gangsters! Let’s become a proper democracy, like normal people.”

the problem with that is that is that literally hundreds of millions of people are employed by state owned enterprise, so any move to remove government would effectively undermine the structure economy

I think you’ll find the disparities of wealth are very much more dramatic in China. And for all its faults, the USA is certainly a democracy.

Yes, I was engaging in a little satirical hyperbole.

The good thing about Communism is that you don’t have to put up with the pesky fourth estate constantly in your ear about politics.
The ABC budget could be slashed and we’d get our forums back.

Its like the ultimate capitalist economy, slave labour to make all your goods and harvest for organs for the tiny percentage of the wealthy.
