so I am about to conduct an experiment…

Premise: you can chill drink to decent drinkable levels by wrapping it with wet paper towel and putting it in the freezer for 15 mins.

I have marked and taken the temp of four bottles
1. 20.7
2. 21.1
3. 20.8
4. 20.5

difference in starting temp is negligible
bottle 1 is the control kept in the same environment as started.

bottles 2,3 & 4 are wrapped in paper towel all soaked together and wrung out at the same time, to as equal a degree as possible and are placed in the freezer near each other but not touching.

all measurement taken with an electronic ear thermometer placed on the little circle of each bottle

each bottle will be kept in freezer set at -18 deg c for a period of 2 – 15 mins 3 – 20mins 4 – 25 mins.

6 mins in

Aren’t you going to put one in the freezer without the wrap?

What about a bottle not wrapped in anything, placed in the freezer for the same length of time?

what’s the target temp?

Will you shake the bottle when it reaches that temp and see if just the outside is cold, or if it was cold all the way through?

Arts, if you’re looking for a quick way to cool your wine/beer/cider, buy a sack of ice from the servo, chuck it in an esky, place bottle in ice, then throw salt liberally all around inside esky.

Given it’s Arts doing the experiment, I’m assuming bottles of water.

so

control bottle 1 – no change
wrapped bottle 2 – 15 mins – 13.3
wrapped bottle 3 – 20 mins – 12.9
wrapped bottle 4 – 25 mins – 8.5
unwrapped bottle 5 –
15 mins – 13.4 20mins – 10.6 25mins – 10.5

conclusion.. wrapping bottle with wet paper towel and putting it in freezer does help to coolify the contents to desirable drinking level but only after 25 mins.. not 15 mins as first asserted.

Let that be a lesson to you people.. it’s at least 25 mins to your next good drink

If this is a scientific experiment, you need to at least specify the mass or volume of the bottle. Is the bottle made of plastic or glass?

Shaking the bottle will also make a difference, the rate of heat convection into the interior is increased by a factor of 20 or so if the fluid in the bottle is undergoing turbulent convection.
