Earth may be home to a staggering one trillion species, scientists say

Scientists agree that there are far more species on Earth than we’ve actually discovered — but exactly how many there are in total remains up for debate. Previous studies have placed it anywhere from 3 million to 100 million, and one much-touted 2011 paper estimated that there are 8.7 million species of eukaryotes — which include plants, animals, fungi and some (but not all) single-celled organisms — on the planet, with about 86 percent of them remaining undiscovered.

Oral sex is one aspect of these male spiders, but there is bondage too.

Sigh.

I edited Wikipedia just a month or so ago on the topic of the total number of species on Earth. Let’s see if the modifications I made still exist. The article now looks nothing like my edit, before or after. Grr. Ah wait, now I see, I edited the Wikipedia article on “biomass” , not “biodiversity”. Trees dominate biomass but not biodiversity.

I note that Wikipedia gives a total estimated global biodiversity of 15 – 40 million species.

This new article claims up to 1,000 million.

So one of them is wrong, I’m betting that it’s the 1,000 million that is wrong. Bets?

Oh wait, the new article is actually claiming up to 1,000,000 million species. Somebody is an idiot, and it’s not me.
