As yesterdays tale of smelling the lakes is still fresh on the forum, I’d thought I’d share some photos with the scenery and flora that can be found whilst walking to the lakes at Base Camp of Mt Wilhelm, the highest Mountain in PNG.

Starting off, is the view as you leave the forest behind and enter into the alpine heath country. Check out the tiny yellow daisies in the carpet, and the tall tree ferns.

Wow, a voyage of discovery! So many little flowers to find along the way, absolutely enchanting, and think of the ones you might have missed!
Very enjoyable, thanks PM.

they are high mountains and you obviously leave the tropics behind as you ascend.
i presume the strawbs are introduced and not native.

when you leave the rest of the forum would have migrated to PNG – you’re quite a tourist promoter.

thanks pepe, the strawbs are introduced, and they are well tasty! In regards to PNG and tourism, if anyone ever plans on visiting this large island oh so close to Aust and they want some inside info, I am happy to share. Recently, a friend came up to PNG and if we had booked our itinerary through this Cairns based company, we would have shelled out a fortune, but because I booked everything here in PNG, we scored some good bargains!
