NASA Funds Interstellar Flight System, 7 Other Wild Space Tech Ideas

NASA has funded eight advanced-technology concepts that agency officials believe could help transform space science and exploration.

The high-risk, high-reward ideas — which received grants under Phase 2 of the NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) program — include a possible way to induce a hibernation-like state in Mars-bound astronauts and a proposal to blast tiny spacecraft between the stars using powerful lasers.

They turned down my idea of developing an artificial placenta for thousand-year-long space voyages. Perhaps it wasn’t wild enough.

I recon that sounds like it could work, waste disposal could be a difficult problem?

I suppose you could recycle most of it and freeze dry and compact the rest.
I wonder if the person connected to the artificial placenta is in almost a state of hibernation and resources are reduced.

the Borg have had their day

last time they showed their face in this quadrant the beamed me on board and within half an hour the entire ship was hamstring with Liquid nails oozing from every important looking orifice and fragile things half snapped off and fucked

they’ve sent a letter of complaint to the federation and have vowed never to return
