Subject: Scientists have figured out how to turn CO2 into solid rock within months
I think this news deserves a post of its own. Originally from Postpocelipse.
>>Two of the biggest problems with carbon capture have been its cost, and finding ways to efficiently store or repurpose the CO2 once it’s been extracted. But now a new technique could drastically overhaul this method of mitigating climate change: turning carbon emissions into solid rock.
An international team of scientists working in Iceland has successfully demonstrated that CO2 emissions can be pumped underground and altered chemically to form solid stone. While storing carbon in the earth is not a new thing, nobody ever expected the process to work this quickly or efficiently.
In a new study published in Science, the researchers explain that their technique for turning atmospheric carbon into solid rock only takes a few months – a timeframe that could finally help make carbon capture and storage a practical, workable solution.<<

This research should be fast tracked and given all the resources it needs.

I think the headline at least solidifies scientists as the hero’s of the next millennium.

Ordinary concrete does that. It absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere and turns it into rock. Within months.
The CO2 absorbing devices used by astronauts and divers do the same job in the same basic way, but much faster.

The big advantage will be if you can extract more co2 than is produced, the climate will begin to cool.

Course it does but at least factories can be fitted to pump their waste into the ground.

considering that more people are being born and will all need more power I think it’s unlikely
building renewable energy systems is the only way to go
if we can at least provide renewable energy to the new additions we’d have half a chance

Having both will be handy. We can pitch our climate where we want it once we know how to keep it stable.

Nobody is saying we should not develop solar power, but we need to extract more co2 than is produced if we want a cooler climate.

Yes wookie is right.
One solution will solve everything, and everything else is evil.
Just don’t let them pay for the solar with a new tax, that’s all.

Why would a new tax be necessary ?
Just squander the untold billions of tax money on renewable and we’d be right as larry
