Parkes telescope may have found clue to life on earth, and elsewhere

A molecule spotted in deep space by NSW’s Parkes telescope may explain the origins of life on earth, and make it even more likely that alien life exists, say scientists.

The new finding could explain homochirality, or why all molecules are either lefties or righties but not both.

This is new? Perhaps it is. Choral molecules have been seen before many times in asteroids and comets, so I suppose they mean first time in molecular clouds in deep space.

This is only a C3 molecule. Chemical CHO atom counts are the same as propanol and acetone, detected in 2006 and 1984 respectively.

But I don’t know for sure which if any chiral molecules have been detected in interstellar space.

Looks to be the first chiral molecule in interstellar space.
