Scientists say they’ve discovered a new kind of meteorite that was unearthed in a Swedish quarry.

Writing in the journal Nature Communications, researchers from the University of California, Davis say the meteorite, which is called Ost 65, is “chemically distinct from all known meteorite types.”

Cripes, that’s new … or old … 470 million years old.

It’s actually an old fossil of a meteorite that has been chemically completely altered after it landed.

> L-chondrites, the most common type of meteorites.

That agrees with my understanding.

So the key here is that this meteorite was generated at exactly the same time as the L-chondrites but is not an L-chondrite.
