Subject: Win 10 updates

Someone put instructions here a few weeks ago about how to stop automatic updates. It might have been in Chat. I can’t see a topic. I want to stop the lappy doing auto updates because it is only dongle connnection and eats up the Mb (yes, only Mbs).

A friend has offered to do the updates irregularly.

The lappy has nothing on it that anyone could want to look at.

Good. Pity it doesn’t also exist in Windows 7.

I seem to have (almost) the opposite problem. Win 10 doesn’t update.

I now (finally, after a full month of frustrations getting Telstra to make the connection work properly) have ADSL here with a very large download allowance. I’ve checked the “metered connection” setting and it’s off. I’d like to get the latest patches etc to make this little box work properly.

When I go to Settings —-> Update & security —-> Windows Update, Win 10 just continues to look for Windows Update, seemingly forever – well, for hours at least.

Any suggestions as to what I should do next?

Are updates set to ‘automatic’?

Yes, we have working TV. I called an aerial fixing service. It turns out the masthead amplifier had to be injected with electricity from a particular one of the three TV aerial outlets. I have no idea why, when I tried this combination it didn’t work, but you get these glitches sometimes, I guess. Anyway, he knew the house and the set-up, so it was $80 well spent.

We are both here permanently now. Brisbane house is sold.

OK, this is in “Windows Update”, under “Advanced Options”, or so the internet tells me. Unfortunately, “Windows Update” is seemingly unavailable – Lose 10 seems to have lost it.
