it looks terrific
- but having a front end loader to turn it and enough ingredients to begin with are the problems.
if you grow heaps of lucerne you will have the best mulch that money can buy – and, in time, it will turn to compost..

you’re in a good position to make bulk compost then. it would be a boom for your garden and pastures and orchards if you could.

yep, so i am thinking about making it a meduim size in the paddock and storing some in my compost bay i have already or i could just use that but it only fits a few buckets.

i’ve not done it but i imagine
- pile up heaps of straw and manure in the paddock (i’m thinking of heaps 6metre cube in size)
- then one day combine them with water to form a heap without a bin
- keep turning it onto the vacant land alongside until it is compost.

yep, or i could combine it all up and put in in the bay and turn it every week.

are we talking 3×3m concrete bays like at landscape suppliers?
Generally all nurseries have a set of these bays somewhere on the property or at least the older nurseries do.
Mostly though large scale composting is done in windrows.

nope you know my compost bay i took out the middle of it so i can just drive the skidsteer upto it and collect the compost.

the front end loader might push the bin over.
windrowing is the normal way, but unless you bale your own hay, you won’t have one of those.
i hate turning compost heaps so i hope you find a way of doing it easier.
thinking about turning my compost Pile today.
then one day combine them with water to form a heap without a bin-
pepe what did you mean by that sorry for bring up this old topic, i have worked out another way of doing it i think i am going to set up a few bins out in the paddocks and have one big one out in the paddock where i store it and use the one inside so may be 2 bins out in the paddock and then just a big Pile.

hi VG – here is the full quote.
i meant you to stockpile green, brown material and manures in separate heaps until you had enough and then combine them all with water to form a compost heap

ok then pepe, i already have Seperate piles of Manure around the paddock one is for horse and the other is goat, ill combined them with the new pile once the Paddock dries out so i can get the skidsteer near the piles and move it all around which should be in spring knowing our luck the house paddock wont dry out engouh.
