The Russian military has announced that it’s in the process of building a space plane that could fire weapons anywhere on Earth within two hours… and it’s going to be armed with nukes.

I think a lot of people would not favor a mass destruction weapon in space.
Maybe it is Russian for “You are all beginning to significantly irritate us”.

What’s the point of that?
They’ve already got nuclear missiles that can be fired anywhere on earth within ONE hour. I don’t see the advantage of this.

Reduced that time to tens of minutes or minutes perhaps
Russia’s defence budget is considerably smaller than Britain’s, and only slightly larger than those of France, India and Japan. Graph on page:

Russia has enemies on all it’s borders, as it is bound to protect all former USSR nuclear states including the Ukraine and Kazakhstan.
I can’t help wondering if the timing of this announcement at the same time as the timing of China’s takeover of Philippine waters at the same time as Brexit is not exactly a coincidence.

Thank God that the USA isn’t. Obama is opposed to nuclear weapons, you’d better hope that the next US president is, too.Russia has enemies on all it’s borders, as it is bound to protect all former USSR nuclear states including the Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

The world does seem to be getting more uncertain and most advanced economies in debt with interest rates down the shitter making responses harder.

No.
And since Brexit Germany has announced it is expanding it’s armed forces to play a more active role to protect WORLD ORDER.

I’m thinking worst case scenario is Putin is considering deep frying someone/thing/where. Most likely he is just waving his wlly around before upping his payload delivery substantially. He recently flagged wanting to improve relations with the U.S. He knows he is the balance of power while the U.S. is sidelined with their internal haemorrhage and now he’ll have France to contribute whatever they do. Seems sensible if you think through the numbers…. I think?

Moll, the USSR has not “protected” the Ukraine any more than Hitler protected Poland.

what!!!!
russia considers it necessary to have a sphere of influence as a buffer to any potential invasion from the west
crimea was not actually formally part of ukraine it was “transferred” to ukraine during the soviet union
the revolution recently was considered to be staged by america
if theres a land war between russia and america on the eastern front i put my money on the red army, this time there will be no lag of time of response, putin isnt shooting his generals like stalin
the russians have stated they aren’t prepared to fight a land war on their own land , so that more or less says the land war will be fought in the buffer zone
the game plan as i see it is that the russians will drive more refugees straight into the guts of europe to cause a social and economic collapse – when the smoke clears all you’ll have is some backward wreck between dover to the russian border
Russia to test ‘Satan 2’ nuclear missile so powerful it could destroy TEXAS or FRANCE
http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/668959/Russia-nuclear-missile-test-Sarmat-Satan-rocket-capable-destroying-France

the russian ICBMs weave all the way to the target and most likely are designed to resist lasers and any other crap NATO might have
they’ve invested heavily into their intelligence networks and according to peter wright the KGB had one of their agents as head of MI6
in that time more soviet agents and russian spies would have come pouring through the breach
So when do they activate you little wookie?
the better bet with the russians to have a treaty with them and NOT breaking it or throwing it away when its convenient
russia was supplying material to germany until the very stroke of midnight and the german invasion four hours later.
pull out NATO from eastern europe and goes back to the original status quo

You seem to operate on the assumption that both NATO and Russia want to go to war. Calmer heads than yours have ensured Europe has been peaceful for over 70 years now.

Mixed feelings, honestly. Erdogan is a total caveman and he is ruining what was great about Turkey. On the other hand, he was indeed elected.
Ah well I hope not too many people are killed in this.

Does this sound familiar?
The label of “sick man of Europe” is given to a European country experiencing a time of economic difficulty or impoverishment. The term was first used in the mid-19th century to describe the Ottoman Empire, but has since been applied at one time or another to nearly every other major country in Europe.

Right now Turkey is one of the few “well” men of Europe, with relatively low debt and a strongly growing economy.

Leaving aside the quibble that the great majority of Turkey is outside Europe, their economy comes from such a low base that I’m not sure that growth by itself is measure of relative wellness.

Be that as it may, growth gives governments options. An economy with 60000 USD gdp/cap that is in recession is going to feel more trouble than one at 30000 USD gdp/cap that is growing strongly. Individuals will feel more pain, there will be more disruption etc.

To the extent that that is true, we should be looking for ways to reduce the illusory pain of the high gdp country, and enhance the illusory wellness of the low gdp country, rather than just accepting that continuous growth is a necessity for well-being.
