Subject: Reticulation

OK, my reticulation and greywater system has been installed, so I have started this thread for my questions :)

I have to go out and set up the timer for the pot plant circuit. When is the best time to water?

I thought it was just before dawn – I think I recall Josh saying once that the plants won’t start sucking up the water until the sun comes out. However a friend thinks that the evening is the best time, as the soil would stay damp for longer and so it would be better for soil microbes.

Question 2: the drippers in the pots are adjustable. Would it be best to have the drippers set to minimum flow, and the timer set so they stay on for longer? (rather than fast drip rate and on for less time). And then for bigger pots I can adjust the drippers to a higher flow rate…

Thanks guys! :)

I have always aimed at Breakfast Watering… sometimes in the night, because of Humidity, black mould can set with evening watering….

if you have the time and allowance, go for minimal drip and longer watering time…. easier to crank it up if required.

Cheers PM :) I’d better look into the watering regs… never needed to know them before!

best to water in morning like PM said bon, or if you have to water during the day make sure that it is all dried up before sunset.

It all depends on where you live and the local evapo-transpiration rates.

All sorts of fungus happen when wet warm weather is about .. day or night. Best to allow nature to do the watering at such times.

Just because the house makes grey water all day it is no excuse to stick it on the garden all the time. This will only result in a boggy dead garden. If you use grey water, you’ll need trees to suck most of it up.
