The South Coast of NSW is quite beautiful.
about september 2002.
It was around the time I met mr kii, but I was mainly in Squabbly and the squabbles drove me out into the welcoming bosom of sssf. So since early 2001?
1998 I believe.

Haven’t a clue. I wasn’t one of the founding members but I was around about five or so years later. Definitely before 2007, I was on the SSSF lunar challenge in 2007.
I went to a pud at FMS place on the Gold Coast in 2000, so before that but I cant remember anymore.

Around mid 2001 from memory. I’m fairy sure I announced first childs birth on here and that was December of 2001. The big Melbourne pud (piggy’s send-off) was in March 2002, and I was well entrenched by then.

OK… I was on the phone to the missus who was soon to find out how difficult it was going to be getting a flight home from Perth. I said a plane just flew into one of the twin towers.. She said “nevermind, it is only terrorists”.

It kicked off at about 9ish, someone mentioned a plane had flown into a tower, mildly interesting but then a comment that a second plane had hit a tower and about that time, the channel switched over to live from New York as did all th channels, I stayed on all night watching and reading and for some reason I didn’t need to go to work the following day so put in an overnighter. At some points early on, by the time you had read a comment and went back to the list it was off the page already.
For the next week the forum was full of it with multiple threads starting.
1998 or 1999. I think my first post was in response to a question about beard hair aligning in a sink after the enquirer shaved. IIRC, I didn’t have to register for that.

The first forumite I met in real life was Michael V. This was just a few days after the Boxing Day Tsunami and it was the natural topic of conversation. I’d probably been posting for about a year before that. That was 2004, so probably late 2003 or early 2004 I started posting at SSSF.
Think it was early 2002 this end.

Early ’03 for me. I can still find the Google listing for my first thread, but the ABC Archives seem gone.
Before we moved to Penshurst, so prior to 2001. My first question was why were the Tasmanian aboriginal people so dark skinned so far south and did this perhaps suggest the ozone hole had been around a hell of a lot longer than generally acknowledged. No idea what the answer ended up being.

Can’t remember. You will find as you get older (because I know you think of yourself as a Bright Yount Thing PWM) you get better at sorting the wheat from the chaff and you only remember the important stuff. The logic of this is that if I forgot it, it was not important.

How many years have you been connected with the SSSF online community?
I joined during the first half of 2003. At that time, I didn’t have the internet at home but went online from the local public library. Up until that time, I had deliberately resisted the internet. But, I eventually embraced it.
I got Windows 98 in 1999. From then until the time I got the internet at home in 2003, I didn’t use any internet security (I didn’t need it), and my system remained stable. But after about six months on the internet, the system had become so unstable as to be unusable and requiring reinstallation.
I joined SSSF during the Spanish Civil War , I had been shot down over mucho grande and was recovering in my bunk in the main hall when I joined.

In 1997 I was reading about win98. So I waited till it came out and we bought a desktop. Sarah found the forum first. She was so young that sarahs mum signed up to help sarah explain what it was she was trying to achieve with her questioning..

I first peeped in a bit earlier, in 1932 on a very early valve monitor but the screen resolution was so poor and full of snow you could barely follow the flame wars.
Around 2005 ? maybe a bit later.
I posted once or twice that murderers should get a life sentence
and once I posted a link to 12 or so abc articles covering murderers found guilty
and posted that they all should get life sentences
caused some others to get a bit excited, If I remember
so many different people
It was hard to keep track

I got my first PC (I had Commodore computers prior to that) just before Windows 95 came out. It ran Windows 3.11 as the main OS but I got W95 when it came out as a second OS dual-booting system. Windows 95 quickly became corrupted so I continued with Windows 3.11 until the computer eventually became obsolete in 1999. Generally speaking, I keep computers for as long as I can.

My first handle was my first name, then they had a thing where everyone had to reregister and my name was taken elsewhere on the ABC server. I had a second handle but a computer meltdown meant I had to change it and I communicate via cut and paste from previous posts and Curve was the result. That was changed when I found out some people thought I was a chick.

I happened to be looking through an art book on collage
then Art Deco
then CN
One of my alternates gave people that impression too…
I don’t remember the change to registration, but it sounds like I should. buffy is my first name for the ABC forums. I had a couple of others for particular purposes. But one of them I gave away almost the first time I used it.

Towards the end of SSSF I led the renegades who advocated this place over some new-fangled forum run by someone we’d never heard of.
Seems I was right, in the end :)
I was non denominational and posted in both.

Heh :)
Just goes to show what a few years can do. I know I still read it wrong though. Maybe I read one of the ones I mentioned above.
Nah, Clarabelles Granddaughter was the one I let slip in about my second post using it. I think I also registered Hyperopia goddess of shoes. No, there was at least one other, and I think it started with W. Although it might have been Maybin. I had that registered too.
Or Maybyn. I remember keeping a bit of paper on my desk at one stage and writing down any unusual patient names/surnames to be used for logins.
I also posted in squeezebabe’s forum…

I have a large amount of glue, (I don’t know what type) on a rugby jumper (50% cotton 50% polyester) I have tried nail polish remover, eucalyptus oil, some store bought glue remover (that didn’t work) and I can’t soak the whole jumper because of signatures, so dry cleaning is out.. any other ideas to remove the glue?_
Did you ever get that glue out?

I had changed to the easier Arts by the time Trev started using flatulencewillgetyounowhere it made many people think my original handle was artsdegreeswillgetyounohere.. the memory is a funny thing.. I had to post under my original handle because others were convinced there was a ‘will’ in my original handle…

my first handle was ‘seahorseman’, then I was no longer a biped so it went to stumpy seahorse.
I did have ‘seakittenologist’ but that got some panties in a bunch, so I went back to this one..

I read an article a couple of years ago about a juggler who used perspex spheres in his act.
One day, his car caught fire (in his absence), and the only sensible explanation was that the spheres, which had been on his front seat, had focused the suns rays and set fire to the seats.
The insurance company didn’t see it that way, however.
I’m with the insurance company here, I think the juggler made that bullshit up and he torched his car.

This forum is un-moderated. The views and opinions expressed are those of the individual poster and not the ABC. The ABC reserves the right to remove offensive or inappropriate messages. —————————————————————————-

Holy crap, pretty sure I replied to that thread citing the RG500s whose Perspex fairing created burn lines along the “dash” looking like you had left a burning cigarette there.
I also had these handles
Bioluminescence
electromagnetic
St. Elmo’s Fire
Cosmic Inflation
Quantum Fluctuation
Planck Epoch
Frequency Spectrum

An old poster called “Cusp” aka “TDO” has just put up a post.
Perhaps we should all rush over there and make a comment :)

I was joking about the ABC.

transition to formula was final handle had in old sssf.
mostly I was a good boy, few times got blocked, so sometimes’d log in via an overseas proxy server

Once you find one of those networks how do you figure out the password. I wouldn’t even know what the defaults are.

Oh i never tried connecting to their networks. But in order to connect to mine I had to let it scan for networks within range.

My brother found it amusing too one day when wanted to connect his tablet to my wifi to show me something.
