Put Camphor between the mattress and the bottom sheet—stops you getting cramps though the night—however IF you get them through the day—

Make this up— I was sceptical—but it really works

Put some lemons cut in half in a bottle cover with Metho—let sit for 2 weeks (with lid on) after the 2 weeks take out the lemon and squeeze the rest of the juice into the metho—and discard the skins—if you do get a cramp rub some of this into the area—you can feel it disappear.

Night cramps are, I believe, a symptom of a missing/low element in your chemical makeup. Think it might be potassium? Eating bananas or drinking some of the sports drinks (check the sodium levels though) will help raise potassium levels. A simple multi-vit might also be sufficient.

Hi Sue not sure what causes them—sometimes I get them heaps but often go for ages without them—I do have all the things you suggest—__but not the sport drinks—how ever I have found that what I posted really works—and so have quite a few of my friends—the Lemon and Metho —was told to me by a 90 year old lady—and I didn’t think it could work but it sure does

my understanding is that cramps are caused by a build up of CO2 in the muscles and is related to circulation. if so then the metho/lemon treatment might be working because of the massage! Does potassium help with circulation? I think it might…

Potassium has something to do with circulation. Someone was telling me the other day that you’re no longer supposed to pump/squeeze your hand before giving blood ‘cause it raises the potassium level. Not sure why or how, but there you go.

People on blood pressure medication should get their doctor’s advice before taking extra potassium.

I’ve watched a few of those medical dramas. If someone is trapped in a car wreck by the legs for any length of time, there is great danger of heart attack when they are released. This is due to the build up of potassium in the trapped limbs which floods the bloodstream. Of course this is purely TV drama but there may be a clue there.

My father suffered from leg cramps a lot.. and eventually the doctors took his leg off due to peripheral vascular disease. Smokers are probably more likely to suffer this but any situation of poor circulation will contribute to cramps and possible gangrene..
